I have already submitted my AMCAS on July 16th, so it going to be verified relatively soon. I am supposed to take the MCAT August 13th. I am not ready for it and will probably void. My question is should I withdraw AMCAS now before it is verified or wait just in case I don't void. Basically, does it matter if I am considered a reapplicant or not? If not, what are the drawbacks to withdrawing after I get verified?

I may be wrong about this, but I don't think most schools consider you a reapplicant unless you complete applications with them (both primary and secondary). I'm sure somebody else on this forum will be able to tell you for sure. That being said, why do you not feel you are ready for the MCAT? Is it a lack of studying, or do you just not feel ready? The reason I ask is because a lot of people don't feel ready for it, but do just fine. And I've never talked to anyone who thought they did well during the test, but they all turned out to have decent scores anyway. However, if you haven't studied for it, then it would be best to void it, so that you don't have a bad score on your record.

Most students rarely feel "ready" for the MCAT; it's a difficult test that leaves many students very dazed and confused aftewards, even those who do very well.

I would suggest taking many practice tests to determine where your score range is. From there, you can estimate what your score will be. I am sure SDNers as well as myself would be glad to provide you with those estimates.

To answer your question though, I doubt you'll be reconsidered a reapplicant until you actually go through teh hoops of applying, are denied by them one year, and then REAPPLY the next time around.

If you're lacking the confidence because you aren't scoring well, I would hold off on taking the test entirely and probably withdraw your application--don't waste your money or time. Take it when you've done pretty strongly on your practice tests and know you can earn a decent score.

i believe that you have to withdraw before you get verified, or else next time you will be a reapplicant

If you withdraw before being verified you are NOT a re-applicant next year (thread: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=751302). You will get all but $160 of your AMCAS fees back (if none of the due dates for schools have passed, which at this point they haven't). If you areverified, even if you don't complete secondaries, you have to indicate on AMCAS next year that you are a re-applicant, you get $0 back.

If you already think you're going to void and will be taking an MCAT in September I'd only go through with applying if your other stats are very strong.

No one ever feels ready for the mcat, they feel ready only as a resignation to the inevitable. As long as you have actually been working and haven't been slacking you'll be fine. because that's as good as you can do.

I'd suggest calling AMCAS to ask them about the options you have for your application at this point...I don't think any of us "know for sure" who is classified as a reapplicant, etc.
