I have my first interview next week and I recently just tried on my suit to see how it would fit. Everything looked fine until I put on the jacket and I noticed it was a bit big around the waist and possibly too long. I am not sure I am going to have time to get it tailored before I leave next week. How bad is this going to appear to interviewers?

Also, I know it was extremely poor planning on my part to not look at this before hand but sadly I will live and learn.

So I bought my suit in june and then proceeded to lose about 25 pounds, and now my suit looks huge on me. Hasn't been an issue as far as I can tell.

Believe me....I will. I just don't see how they will criticize you if your suit jacket is too big : /

Ohhh my bad. I thought you were making fun of me for not planning better. Haha sorry i never know on here sometimes.

But yeah I just did not know if this would be an issue or make me look unprofessional. It's not horrible, but would def look better if it was tailored.

Lol, it's okay. But in all honesty, I hope they're not that uptight. Is it ridiculously long or barely noticeable? Without seeing a pic, it's kind of hard to give advice

Some tailors can work miracles in a couple of days. My usual guy does my jobs in two days or less. It all comes down to how you feel and how it affects your confidence. Adcoms are going to take little stock in how well your suit fits.

It goes like half way down my thigh and the waist is a bit wide, but I don't think it looks like I am swimming in it or anything. Maybe it's just pre-interview jitters. Anyways, I'll see if I can post a pic later and see what you think. Thanks though!

Oh ok. No problem. I wish you the best of luck!

Your description may be off, but that seems much too long of a coattail length. Go look up ads for suits and see how it looks on the models. Your sleeves should show some dress shirt cuff and it should come down to just above the crotch area of your pants (covering a substantial portion of your buttocks). When I read "half way down my thigh" I think of something way too long, but then you say you aren't swimming in it, so I don't know.

I'd say it is really hard to look ill-fitted in a suit jacket unless your arms don't reach the end of the sleeves or something else goofy like that.

You should call Barney Stinson's tailor, that guy does wonders

I mean your only choice is to wear it for this one unless you can get a tailor to turn it around this weekend. Just remember to get someone to remeasure and tailor it for you before your next interview so you're lookin good.

I'm not sure how the length got messed up unless you somehow got shorter since it was tailored? Did you not try it on to see how it fit in the store after they adjusted it?

Call multiple tailors in your locality. Someone will be able to somewhat fix the issue in 2 days. If not, learn to sew; you'll make a killing in your town.

Most important part of suit fitment is making sure the shoulders are right. Everything else can be tailored, and they can bring in waists/sleeves pretty quickly

Problem solved.

Just don't ever turn around, never let anyone get behind you, and don't sit.

You could put the binder clips on the inside of the coat, though it might hurt when you sit down.

I love how people always assume a remark on sdn automatically makes someome a dick irl.

well if you act differently offline then you do online you're an internet *****, of course with the exception of "theres a time and place for everything" moments

but, if you're brave enough to call people out on SDN, but not real life, then yeah,

i dunno... I saw a big suit on a guy the other day and it just looked bad... but if it's too late to go buy a new jacket and money is an issue, then just go with what you have. adcoms should be understanding of how expensive this process is and not all of us can look like we are professionals for a living lol. you'll be fine.

edit: i am personally trying to lose 10 lbs in the next 5 weeks so i'm waiting until the last minute to buy my outfit. but i'm also a girl.

I keep misreading the title of this thread as:

Strait jacket too big?

Well now you might as well let your pants sag and go for the gangsta look. Wear a wife beater under your suit jacket, and you'll be golden.
