Suits for little people

I'm a very small person in need of advice. I'm having a load of trouble finding a suit that will fit me. Suggestions? Are there women suit stores that exist for us little people? I realize that there are tailors out there, but I need to first find a suit and one that's relatively small. Also, I worry that getting jackets to fit will be pretty tough. Has anyone had previous experience with this? Thanks in advance!

I haven't met him, but there's a guy in CT surg (I think) with some form of dwarfism. IDK, I don't think anyone cares. On the other end we've got a trauma guy who's 7'something".

I don't know how small you mean by "little" but I'm a fairly small person (very underweight, not so tall either). I found an XS suit jacket at Macy's junior's section, and instead of wearing pants (the waists never fit), I got a black skirt that has an elastic waistband.

if you are petite, i would suggest the limited or ann taylor. i went to a bunch of places this weekend - express, macys, h&m, plus the ones above. my ann taylor suit is my favorite. i still will need to get the pants hemmed, but the jacket doesn't really need any tailoring. express has cute styles too, but their suits didn't really fit well on me. the nice thing though is you can mix and match .

banana republic has a good petite selection - although i think they only have 3 button suits for petites this season. I'm pretty small (5'0") and I fit their 00 petite size. I think JCrew also carries petite sizes, but I've never tried them on -they're a bit on the pricey end for me.

i don' think their available everywhere but i think United Colors of Benetton has a lot of really nice suites for petite sizes that are really nice, that's where i got mine and i love it. good luck!

New York and Company sizes many of their clothes by Petite, Average and Tall and has all the number sizes for each. They're awesome like that. 😀

i don't know how small you are but I am 5'1 and 3/4 and 110 and i found a size 2P skirt suit at macy's... i also have a 2P pants suit but the legs are always long...but i love wearing heels!

the express ones are cut small as well...

i get all of my dress shirts from express...

Talbots also has some petite stuff. A lot of their clothes are "older lady" styles, but you might find a nice suit there. Good luck!

FYI- while I was shadowing at Johns Hopkins Med Center as an undergrad, the head of orthopedic surgery was a little person. It was really cool seeing him perform the procedures-- he just stood on a wide based chair/table of sorts.

I suppose Hopkins also valued his recommendation closely, as I received my acceptance within the past month.🙂

There are a lot of stores with selections for petite women (4'11" to 5'3"). If something is too long, the length can be altered by a tailor. Some department stores have tailors in the store.

If you are at the lower end of the height range for petites, then Banana Republic clothing may be too long without alteration. I think that the Banana Republic inseam for petites is 30". Many stores have 27-29" inseam for petites.

Keep in mind that women's clothing is usually cut differently (fit differently) from year to year for the same brand.

Try JCREW (at jcrew.com or in store). They have petite sizes and a large collection of nice suits for men and women. I would suggest you check the online store because their stores usually do not carry too many collections on petite.
