Summer before Senior Year

If I plan on going directly to med school, then the summer of my senior year would be mostly spent filling out secondaries right? I shouldn't plan on doing anything big like take a trip to Europe or even attend a summer program, but leave that chunk of time free so I can do the best I can on my essays? Would it be better to even attend college during this time? That way, I have access to professors and people who can look over my answers and edit them, give me suggestions.
