I am trying to get an idea of what most med students do in the break between classes. What do you guys do?
Work? Study? Enjoy the time off and do nothing?

Depends on the student and the school. At many programs, you only have a full summer between 1st and 2nd years, as the following year is taken up with Step 1 studying and early start to 3rd year.

Probably most medical students have fun that first (last) summer and don't do much medically related; those who are aiming for a more competitive specialty often spend the time doing research or enhancing their CV.
