Hi SDN, I was wondering if you guys could give me a little guidance. I'm a freshmen biology major currently attending a state school and have been thinking about summer classes. My school said this summer will be funded by the state so the tuition fees would be regular price, not jacked up. If I take summer classes I can finish my series of general biology classes but I am not sure whether they offer general chemistry or physics in the summer. Additionally, it's unpredictable if my school will offer any more summer classes for this price or at all. However, I got accepted to a summer medical program this summer which I am very excited about. Would you guys choose finishing your pre-reqs faster and being on track or attending that somewhat selective summer medical program only available to freshmen and sophmores? Thank you for your responses.

Depends on the situation
Are you going to graduate on time and can handle full course loads with no impact to your GPA or extracurricular time. If so then summer program all the way.
If you think taking 16-20 units each quarter is going to hurt your GPA then take summer school classes.

If you are excited about the summer program, I would do that.

At some point, taking summer classes may be an option. I took some so it made it easier to graduate on time. I was working in a lab on campus at the time so that worked out well.

I guess you can't really go wrong. You are only a freshman so you don't need to be in a rush all the time. Your post made it seem like you are leaning toward the program, so I would do that.

👍

Being well rounded, trying something new, and having cool stuff to talk about >>>>>>>>>>>>>> taking summer classes to finish a series faster.

I'm just concerned about finishing my pre-reqs on time so that I can take the MCAT as early as possible to get an ideal application time in the cycle. But yes, I am very excited for the program and I am confident in myself that I can handle a full work load. But the answer that you guys gave me is clear, thank you.
