For anyone who goes to USN, I am a P1 about to choose my summer internship and I really want to pick a pharmacy that wants to teach me something. I am willing to learn and I haven't really been fortunate to work with pharmacists who really want to use me as an intern....so far I have spent some of my time as a tech and the majority as a clerk, just ringing people up at the cash register for hours at a time.

Can any of you recommend a good pharmacy (interested in me moving forward as an intern) to choose?

stay away from the major retail pharmacies like, walgreens, cvs, savon, ect. most of these bigger chains are way too busy too teach you. for example my store does 700 scripts a day. as well intended to as i am... id be hard press to find time to teach you. instead find a mom and pop pharmacy. something like an independent pharmacy or a compounding pharmacy. for the most part they do a lower volume and can teach you something out of the ordinary. like compounding, iv's, ect... if you do decide retail do k-mart or target they're slower and allow more one on one time with your preceptor.

good info.

thanks🙂

This is good advice. I learned more at my 8 week rotation at Target than I did in the 2 years I have worked at CVS. It's not that the pharmacists I work with don't care, it's just that they don't have the time. A slower pace does mean more time to ask questions and pick the pharmacist's brain, or just grab a random package insert and read it when things are slow. Also, don't forget grocery stores that have pharmacies.

Vardenafil, How is your friend Sildenafil? Are you guys from the phosphodieterase 5 inhibitor?

I just finished my P1 year and I'm doing an internship at Wags. It's crazy busy so there's not much hand holding. I was just tossed in the fire on my first day (although I've spent the last two staring at training modules until my eyes bled). Although it's not an all warm-fuzzy teaching environment, I think I can get something out of it (even if that's to avoid retail after graduation). Not to mention, the purpose of my internship is to make money to pay the rent. Any learning I get out of it is gravy.

Well, i understand you because i was doing the internship too, but i had to give up even though the pay was not bad. I could not handle it. I tought i would learn something from it, but i don't think i would learn much. I worked mostly the drive thru, and the register. I even had nightmares about the workplace. I am so happy now that i quit
