Are summer internships (e.g. research) worth pursuing, given that they are typically 8-12 weeks in a single summer, or is it better to continue ECs and research?

What other research activities do you have? Will this internship have a high likelihood of yielding a pub? Are you able to maintain some form of volunteering or employment during the internship? Are you comfortable traveling far away from your social support network for 3 months?

I’d say it’s worth it. You will go and meet people from all over (if the program has a wide recruiting pool). Develop networks and open your horizons, so to speak. Usually those programs are competitive but if you can manage, go for it!

Mid-author publication in the works right now. If I am not mistaken, I would only get a poster presentation out of it. I would not be able to maintain my current volunteering commitments if I choose the internship (aside from research, maybe). Yeah, traveling far away from family/friends wouldn't really be an issue.
Worth it imo. Gain connections, get good LORs, maybe publish but probably present at the very least. Bonus points if it’s at a med school or med school related center
Would an LOR from a PI/mentor be worthwhile given that I have only known them for 3 months? I agree, however, that the connections I can gain are valuable.
