im a sophomore, and im thinking that i am in need of some summer internships. my advisor doesnt know much about it.
where should i be looking for them?
are there any that are accepting applications after february?

What kind of internship are you looking for? Research? There are a lot of research internships available that will pay you plus provide for travel and living expenses. A lot of them have deadlines in early Feb but I've seen some with deadlines as late as March.

where do you live and how far are you willing to travel. Usually your schools labs will have many opportunities. the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland has summer internships, the application is due March 1st i think

I did a politically oriented internship with the Washington Center. If you want to do it with them, I suggest you sign up asap starting now.

the internet is your friend. just try googling what you are looking for.

also, try upperclassmen.

also, try your school's career center.

I participated in the Washington Center program as well last summer. I was able to complete research (which I am submitting for publication). Definitely check this program out: twc.edu. Also, I heard that NIH applications for summer internships were usually due the November before your planned internship. Maybe I was misinformed? Anyway, TWC was great! I don't think their application is due until late February if you are planning to attend for the summer.

Seriously, just google it. There are even lists of medical internships and whatnot posted by other advisers that may be more on top of things.

try different pharm. or biotech companies around your area, they usually have summer internships also.

I did the summer REU program at Albany Medical College and would highly recommend it. The application deadline for this year is March 6th I believe. There is a stipend and they do offer housing as well for like $120/week I think. The opportunity is well worth it as I not only learned a lot, but also made great admissions connections for medical school. Check out the website www.amc.edu/Academic/GraduateStudies/SummerResearch.html

wow! thanks guys!
this helps a lot.
im sorry im so ignorant

which would be more helpful to me as a pre-med student: research internships or clinical experience?

Hah! No you are not ignorant...I found out about my internship by reading a flier on my dorm's bathroom wall. Get an internship in whatever field you enjoy the most. Or do a little of both. Try and explore something that is not offered to you at your home university. For example, if you go to a research uni then you could try for a clinical internship.
