So the past few summers I've worked in a factory and waitressed. (In the factory, I was able to work in the microbiology lab the first year.)

Anyway, now that I'm a sophomore in college, I feel as if I need to do more than just make money. During the school year, I work in labs so I'm not sure how much more of that i want to do.

Have any suggestions for summer jobs/experiences? What did you med students do during your summers?

If you're working in a lab doing research during the school year, you probably don't NEED to be doing research during your summers. Personally, I found that research was a good way to BOTH get experience and make $$ during college summers, but I worked for a major personal products corp... not academic. The money was definately better than the academic positions I had.

Anyhoo, if you're looking to have fun, I would recommend working at a camp (day camp or sleep away). You spend your summer outside, getting a tan, swimming, and playing with kids. Pay isn't great, but its definately fun! Or you could always waitress or bartend... a little more back-breaking, but can be fun.

Whatever you do, try to enjoy your college summers... you'll miss them during med school!
