I am finishing my first year and have a pretty short summer (~4 weeks), but i would like any advice regarding how to best spend my time. a finished fourth-year told me to just show up at the optho clinic in the hospital we rotate through and shadow and get to know people. is this good advice? what are my other options?

thanks

Drop by your ophtho department, and find an attending who is interested in working on a research project with you. For a first year, a retrospective chart review is probably a good start. You can even do a case report on an interesting patient and write it up. This will also help you get your foot in the door with shadowing the attending during clinic/OR time. Good luck.

thanks. i'll stop by and see my options.
