Summer Programs, No Letters of Recommendation

I have been looking around and it seems as though all the programs require letters of recommendation, which are rather difficult to obtain from professors of large science lectures. Are there any that do not require recommendation letters?

Have you tried asking? Many professors are more than willing to help out...

Also, if you have a research gig at your home university, a lot of programs I am applying to (mostly in neuroscience) will accept a letter from your PI.
