Does anyone know of any good summer programs with a pre-vet or at least animal (esp. wildlife) focus? I've found two or three things, but my google powers have been failing lately. I'm preferably looking for something with housing provided, but it isn't absolutely a requirement.

Thanks for any help!

Not sure if this is what your looking for but it one Ive been saving up to do for a few years. Im really into photography, and they have a wildlife photography class once a year. But they do practicums in the summer and rent is included in the price, but meals and transportation are up to you.

I interned there a few summers ago. Its a cool place. Feel free to PM me about it if you have questions.

Hey kakurubird,

A few years back I did the Adventures in Veterinary Medicine Program at Tufts which was AMAZING. They have programs for all ages(middle school - adult), some residential and some just like a day camp type thing. I found it fascinating and it really helped me realize that this is the path i really want to take 🙂

hey! well, davis has a summer program. i know someone who did it and she got to see stuff about opthamology and cardiology. the only thing is that you have to be financially disadvantaged and you write an essay about why you want to do it and then they have forms that you fill out about your financial stuff (scholarships, loans, etc). i think it's 4 weeks long, but it sounds like it's worth it. they also help you with your GRE and personal statement.

I think purdue has one (did some years back)

Thanks for the help guys! Some of these are a great start.

I did at lot more poking around at websites this evening and found a research program at Purdue that seems really cool (might be what sumstorm was referring to).

The NIH has summer research programs available. What you do varies depending on the lab you're in.

Another vote here for the Tufts Adventures in Vet Med program--I did it several years ago (college grad/adult program, as I'm a non-trad) & loved it!

Not sure if it's too late for this summer, though, as the application decisions are typically made in late Jan. Anyway, here's a link with all the info: http://www.tufts.edu/vet/avm/

I had an amazing experience doing wildlife rehab at Island Wildlife Natural Care Center in British Columbia. They focus mainly on harbour seals.

Hey, I did an internship at IWNCC too! It was pretty cool and you get to learn lots about medical procedures and homeopathic remedies. And baby seals are pretty much the cutest things ever. 😍

Michigan State also has summer vet programs.

If you're interested in wildlife check the Texas A&M job board and conbio.org , tons of cool projects out there with housing and stipend included.

The Tufts AVM program was amazing... definitely solidified the fact that I was meant to be a veterinarian 🙂
