Summer Research Opportunities

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The first thing you should be thinking about is whether you want to need/want to stay local or not. If so, you should be looking at schools/hospitals in your city - depending on how big it is there might already be several surgery-related summer internships. If you're fine traveling to a different city, there's no shortage of surgery-centered summer research opportunities nationwide, you literally just need to google them and see which interest you.

There are no shortage of opportunities at my home institution. I am just wondering if there are national programs or highly sought summer internships that I may not be aware of. Appreciate your input tho.

There is a bunch tbh. Hard to keep track. You probably know them more than most since you are looking for them too.

I would also no balk at doing research at your home institution. Doing it at your med school makes it easier to continue that work

If a surgical subspecialty is your end goal, finding a productive research lab (with hopefully multiple future publications) > attending a "name brand" summer internship.
