To everyone who is taking or took summer school classes this summer, what are your grades in the classes?
I got a b in chem 1 in both lab and lecture. So im kinda bummed out.

A in cell & developmental biology and the lab.

So we have to update the schools individually with these grades, not AMCAS?

I know it's crappy, but most likely yes.

Drugs and Society A-
Jewish Film A

the A- made me angry, arghhh🙂

I still have 2 weeks to go 🙁 but I'm not doing as well this quarter as previous quarters - trig because of the speed it has to go for the shortened quarter, and bio because my teacher is a real bitch.

What if your summer grades don't come out till end of Aug (i.e. 8/25 ot Mid September). Do you still have to send them in for secondaries to each individual schools?

Let's say you send in your secondaries first. When do you send in your summer grades?

Only send stuff to schools if they ask. For the most part, there are way too many hoops to jump through to get your transcript info into the same system which your AMCAS app was sent through; it is way easier to have the cutoff at Spring grades and leave it at that.

I took two spring classes: Insanity & Humanity (Mental Illness and the Media) and Social Development. A in both.

A in orgo 1, still waiitng for my grade in orgo 2; really really hoping for an A

i hate summer school. gosh dont know why I did this to myself lol. ill be done the 15th

but since the classes were only 4 weeks each a piece I still have a little bit of vacation....even though its filled w. working and volunteering...

Calculus A
Amer History since 1877 A

i had a family tragedy in the middle of the term, so i don't know how much these grades were given to me vs. my earning them, but i'm really happy.

Looks like you won't find comfort here, geneticclone.

I've still got 2 weeks to go in my differential equations class =/ I have a midterm tomorrow and a final in 2 weeks.

i'm not sure you're allowed to post your As in this thread, since they hardly victimize you 😉

i took human physiology in 8 weeks. i got my first B...by an eighth of a point 🙁

Now what if im lying like everyone else on studentdoctors and said i got an A ? lol.

Actually my semester isnt over, it ends next tuesday but im probably gonna get a B in both lecture and lab, and an A in english. In fact im writing my last essay( until i apply to med school) ever right now, so im happy bout that.

I think it's safe to assume I'm not lying about my grades. Otherwise, I'd boost my MDapps GPA and MCAT score wayyyy up. Hahaha

Those really hurt, the ones where you deserve a better grade but you just missed it.

It was pretty painful. The class average on the final was a 69%

Advanced Expository Writing: A
Bioethics: A
Basic Calculus: A

My calc teacher wanted to give me an A minus even though I had a 94% in the class, she wanted to curve only for those who were in the 90th percentile and I was angry.

I realized I had become one of those people who get pissed off at an A- :S (The opposite of me a few years ago)

I talked to her though the day after the final and she said she was not going to to do that, so I am glad.

The english class was my last one I had to take, my teacher liked my writing, so I will get a humanities letter from her hopefully

Bioethics was real fun and interesting, easy class, but I think if I ever get an interview I could hold a decent conversation in medicine and ethical issues

A in molecular genetics 🙂

Don't worry about it 😀

I highly recommend NEVER taking a whole year of biochemistry in 8-weeks of summer school. I was doing fine in the class, but then my MCAT scores posted, I got depressed and didn't study for a whole week. Not studying for a whole week in a one year class is just about the same as not studying for a whole month! Now I am paying the price and worried I may get my first B since starting on the post-bac track.

Holy crap. (Sorry, not a victim per se) but I took Spanish II

I don't think we have to update NOW, right? It seems so annoying...for them. 😛

2 math classes - A in each
history class - A
Spanish II - A
Spanish I - B

Apnea, I empathize with you because I also missed that A by hundreths of a point. It was the highest grade in the class, too. She taught it as though everyone had already studied Spanish, but had intentionally placed low to land in there. For most of the class, that was actually true. The grade stung a bit because it was my first B, much of the grading was subjective, and because those 2 Spanish classes are the only 4 credit classes I'll ever have, except for math/science classes. The worst part is that I know I would have had the A if I'd actually done less by keeping answers very simple. Any errors in spelling or accents & the entire sentence would be marked wrong. Still, I feel like I won because I learned far more Spanish than I ever would have expected to learn in one summer.

Squib & Josh - It boggles my mind that anyone can take both orgos in one summer! Though I do think that I retain info better when it's in the fast pace daily presentation format because it's being built on constantly. Still I'm amazed that anyone even offers orgo in 4 wk sessions. How many hours/day were classes? How many hours/day studying? Will you remember what you learned, or will it fall out of memory now that the courses are over? Do they grade on the curve? None of our classes do. That's probably the best for me as far as incentive to learn the material well and keeping competition friendly. Not so good for the GPA potential, though.

Damn man how did you take 5 classes in ONE SUMMER?

It can be done. I got A's in Orgo I, Orgo II, and Physics II last summer (six week courses....six weeks of just Orgo I, then six weeks of Orgo II and Physics II). The classes/labs were all 4 hours (8-12 for Physics, 5-9pm for both Orgos). No curving for any of them. All this and studying for the MCAT independently with EK.

I certainly don't consider myself a super human or anything, and it really can be done with a little careful planning. I even had time to enjoy myself periodically over the summer. That being said, I did feel like I spent every waking hour worrying about those classes and the MCAT. But it all worked out in the end. And I even have a little bit to talk about if an interviewer asks how I have "challenged myself" for the rigors of medical school. Not that it really compares, but it's a starting point.

A in Calc I
A in Brain & Behavior

Took an Incomplete on my research because it blew up into a HUGE project - mentor doesn't care, and I don't have to get a grade till October (she's already said it will be an A).

Orgo I - A
Orgo I lab - A
Orgo II and II lab in progress

It's possible to have a 40-hour job that works you 50 hours, go to classes 12 hours a week and still have life during the summer, orgo is pretty sweet 👍

You only went to school 12 hours a week?
For chem 1 i had to go at least 20 hours a week. Of course im in the semester system rather than quarter?
Good job though.

I took a couple of classes last summer when I applied. Some of my schools wanted an official transcript, others were fine with just an e-mail from me updating them. I sent out the e-mails/trancripts pretty much as soon as grades were posted for the summer sessions. :luck:

Physics I - C
Physics 1/lab - C

Physics II - in progress, but probably a B for both lecture and lab.

I don't feel too bad about the C in Physics I because pretty much the entire class did terrible. I don't care what people say. A terrible professor CAN screw you up.

geneticclone, the math & Spanish were each condensed 5 wks. Each 2 and a half hrs/day. One set was morning, the other was night. History was fullterm weekends. I'd get up early, review the math, go to class, come home and study about 3 hrs for Spanish, go to class, come home and do the math and work on writing essays for history. Fridays were free. I spend those days shadowing, just a couple of hours studying, and go out with friends until late. It was my favorite day, but the one that I was most tired because we always hung out until way too late on Thursday night. Thurs was my night to forget about books.

It's impossible to do 2 semesters of science over the summer here. They are only offered as full-term with the schedules scattered all over the place across the week. So, they conflict with each other. The only way to take ochem or physics & anything else and still study enough would be to take the second course as a weekend course. There aren't many of those offered.

I'm just glad that I got a writing intensive and the Spanish out of the way this summer. They are huge time sinks for me. Now, I won't have to worry about having them interfere w/my math & science courses in the fall. Still have one more Spanish to take, but it won't be so bad during the normal semester.

I'm still awed by the posters who could take 2 or 3 science courses over the summer because it's not possible here.

Now, I have 2 weeks of vacation left! I'm chillin'.😎

LOL... just becase ppl got A's does not mean that we weren't victimized, verbally and mentally abused, or cursing the gods becasue we had to study instead of enjoying the sun...LOL... I'm just glad that its over!

LOL, valid point
12 hours in 8 weeks made me a little loopy too, but it's OVER!!

Sweet, i totally forgot about weekend classes. I would have taken spanish along with english and chem except that it interfered with my chem class.

I think I'm failing calc...HOW CAN THEY EXPECT ME TO STUDY? I'm more worried about Calc 2 next winter. I hope to God med schools don't make me send in my winter term grades because there will most certainly be a D on my transcript :scared:

a B in STAT....

Is statistics grades considered part of the BCPM GPA?

Spanish A
Microbiolgy (Currently in it, but have the highest grade in a curved class) Refuse to get anything but an A!! 😀

How many hours/day were classes?
3 hours a day 4 days a week.

How many hours/day studying?
First after class I would grab a quick lunch... then I would head to the library and study for 4 hours. I would head home eat dinner take an hour break then study another 4-6 hours depending on if I had a quiz or an exam. On fridays I would take the day off... if I wasn't behind on reading... then Iwould study all day saturday and sunday.

Will you remember what you learned, or will it fall out of memory now that the courses are over?
It is slowly trickling away, but I know when I review it again, for the MCATs I will remember most of it for the most part. *hopefully*

Do they grade on the curve?
Nope.

It just took alot out of me, because even though the course was 4 weeks we still covered all the material and we had the same amount of quizzes/exams. The fact that I kept going over it constantly... over and over again really helped... I barely had to review for the finals because it was such a short amount of time that I was able to recall mostly everything. PPL thought I was crazy taking both orgos in only eight weeks, but now I have time to relax so I won't feel burnt out for next semester.

lol... I have to agree... I was talking to my mom about this thread and she was like "what you've been through?!? What do you mean, what about what I've been through. I had to put up with you yelling and getting mad when I tried to take you some place because you had to study. Study STUDY STUDY! Promise me when and if you take summer classes... live on campus" and this coming from a person who wanted me to come home this summer... lol

87.6 in Bio I. Still have 1 dissection lab, 1 lab quiz, 1 lab final, and the chapter exams.

88 in Microecon. Unfortunately, no matter how well I do on the final, it won't take me up to a 90. 😡

haha, ouch 😉 Maybe you could convince your mom to join SDN, sounds like she's done a fair bit of suffering lately too

A+ in Orgo I. Currently suffering through Physics III, got a weak A+ average so far, but I feel like the midterm last Monday may have taken care of that.🙄 :scared: *anxiously awaits grade*
