Since my schedule is so packed, I was hoping to take some classes over the summer at a community college, like foreign language and maybe an art class or something. I need two quarters of Spanish as one of my graduation requirements and some kind of fine art class. I want to get these out of the way. Will it matter to med schools if I take them at a CC than at my college? I'm a freshman chem major at Santa Clara by the way.

No. Not even filling pre-reqs at a CC matters to most med schools. They just want to see that you can handle a difficult courseload at some point.

I would avoid taking your sciences at a CC if you can, but I think that you would have no problem taking a class like Spanish or Art.

riotgurl,

Like everyone said, it won't matter too much.

I just graduated from Santa Clara last spring, and they do offer spanish and fine arts classes over the summer, if you can stay in the area for the summer and don't mind paying the $150 a unit or whatever the summer tuition is. The bonus of that is that it is just a lot less complicated, and you never have to worry about filling out any paperwork to transfer credits or obtain two different sets of transcripts when it is time for applying for med school.

Some med schools don't look kindly at doing pre-reqs at CC. I personally didn't take any, but I know that I was asked about it several interviews, and I know that my local med school will not accept CC credit for sciences.

Best bet is to take the sci classes from your University in my opinion.
