Just thought of this and it was too good not to share.
Finding shadowing opportunities can be tough if you lack a social network that includes a lot of physicians. Your state AHEC is probably a great place to look if you don't have any nearby free clinics or teaching hospitals that will take you in.
1) Google "AHEC + your state"
2) From that page, navigate to the regional office closest to you (i.e. "Central Nebraska; Southern Florida")
3) Find the "student opportunities" tab
4) Most of the states I've looked at specifically mention college student shadowing. If not, call the individual regional offices and ask.
