Anyone who is going to UB this August, feel free to write about anything in this thread.

I will post a e-mail to the list serve telling people about the website.

Have fun

It looks like we will be required to get a Palm M515. We will have to go through UB to get it, because they are going to make it compatible with UB systems and add on software.

The cost $429.

I'm guessing they don't want us to have a laptop

How does the list serv thing work?

I can't seem to e-mail anybody on the list serv. Is it e-mail address specific.

Did everybody get their Oreintation Packet.
Looks like they have a lot planned for us.

Is anybody going to go to the Golf Tournament. It looks expensive but since we get lunch, greens fees, cart, and dinner its not a bad price.

Where are all the UB students! Hello? I can hear my voice echoing.

i just completed 1st year at ub. overall, look foraward to being able to enjoy your medical school experience and have somewhat of a life outside of med school. welcome and congrats on behalf of the 2nd years!

and a note on the palm piolt thing . . . i didn't get one from them. i'm not going to. 429 bucks is too much. i suspect you won't use it too much. hold off. i bet you can get by with a handspring neo for about $100. well, that's what i got so i am going to have to make it work.

Hey Colorado

They say it (Palm M515) is required. Should I call up UB and ask them. Maybe I only need a generic one.

Thanks for the info.
I can't wait till start.
Have you ever worked out at the UB weight room? I wanted to know when I could get access. I hope I don't have to wait till oreintation.

Check out this link

UB is requiring all incoming first years to purchase the bundle from UB Micro. It is a good deal when you consider you are getting a top of the line PDA, case, all software and support.

You will use it, even as a first year.

Regarding the palm pilot.

I have a Palm IIIC and was rather reluctant to dish out 400+ for a new palm. I called Mike from UB Micro center, and he explained to me that the IIIC will work fine. It's just that I'll have less memory (8 instead of 16) and the processor will not be as fast. In terms of software, it should run fine.

My understanding is that you will need a palm, so if you don't already own one then go ahead an buy that bundle from UB Micro.

I think that you can still get it cheaper by 30 bucks if you buy it on your own. Try doing a pricewatch on the item (www.pricewatch.com)

Just wanted to add that PALM OS is required so don't go out and get yourself a Pocket PC or Windows CE OS device. :)

I was actually planning to get a Pocket PC over the summer. I'm glad UB decided to tell us before orientation.

Have you guys received your schedule to events. it looks like fun.
If anybody is in Buffalo and wants to get together before orientation, that would be cool.

AK

Do yourselves a favor and buy the palm from UB. OMC will configure the thing for you and take care of everything before you even get your hands on it, you pick it up from them all set up.

Forget saving 30 bucks, you'll learn during the 4 years of medical school that 30 bucks is nothing for good customer service and the avoidance of headaches.

Thanks Rads.

As soon as I come up with the money I will purchase it from them. Anyways if UB puts something on the network and your Plam isn't configured then you probably won't be able to download it.

I would rather not have the hassel. Less to worry about in Medical school sounds good to me.

Hi Adam! I am just testing out the site....I will be in Buffalo before orientation so if you would like to meet that would be fine with me. See you soon!

Hey Adam,

Since you're in/from Buffalo area. Why don't you give us some info of what's fun and what to avoid in the area. While I was visiting for housing weekend I liked the downtown area a lot -- especially the bars :) Thanks Adam!

Hey Jones,

This is a lot better than e-mailing everybody on the list serve. Where are you planning to live?

I'm living with my parents in Williamsville.

Maybe I should throw a pool party for some of the incoming class. My parents have a in-ground pool with a diving board and slide. Who is interested?

AK

Chippewa and the elmwood strip is always a great time! I never really got out there much because I was 18 (under the drinking age) when i left Buffalo

But you can't miss this weekend's Taste of Buffalo. It is a blast. You get to sample food from like 200 vendors, live music and much more.

If you like outdoor theater then you can't miss Shakespeare in the Park (its the Nation's 2nd largest next to NYC)

The waterfront is also a great place to relax.

But you got to head up to Niagra Falls the Candaian side. That where the bars and casinos are. Its only 20 mins with good traffic to the border.

AK

If anybody is Polish, go to the Broadway market

We should all go up to Darien Lake (oops I mean Six Flags Darien Lake. Only 35-45 mins away.

If you like museums then go to the Albright Knox Art Gallery. Its right across from Delaware Park (thats where Shakespeare in the Park is held)

If you like running or just want to check out the people runing you canm run in Delaware Park or on the Amherst Bike Path (N. Forrest and Maple)

AK

Thanks for the great info Adam :)

I'm up for the Darien Lake trip. I should be up by the 8th of August. I already found a housemate :)

It should be fun!

Hi everyone,

I'll be a 1st year at UB too. I also went to undergrad at UB.

I'm so excited to start!

Hey guys. Finally got this thing working, so I thought I'd post a message. I am in Buffalo this summer (as I have been basically for the last 4 years, since I went to undergrad here as well). I'm up for meeting people before Orientation. I already know quite a few members of the incoming class, since loads of us are UB alumni, but I don't know the people posting on here at any rate!

6 Flags sounds cool - I don't actually do anything now, as I decided to avoid the headache of having a job this summer, so I can go whenever. Also, I live very close to Delaware Park (Shakespeare is about a 5-10 minute walk from my apt) so if you'd like to meet up to go to the park or anything, my teeny place is a fine place to meet first.

I don't really want to give out my phone number, since everyone and their brother will be able to see it on here, but my email is [email protected] if you want to talk about doing stuff before Orientation! Let me know!

-Emily
