Well, I do, but I can't speak for the rest of my city.

Hey guys, my boyfriend Styphon also just found out he is WL at Buffalo and is bottom one third. Don't take this the wrong way but it's comforting to know that a lot of you guys are bottom one third too.

He was really dejected over it, I really hope they don't just chop the bottom one third in April....

We live in Buffalo so maybe it's true that they waitlist people from Buffalo.

He's still waiting to hear back from Upstate post interview and the rest he either hasn't heard from (rejections) or was rejected from.

His stats were 3.61 GPA , 31 MCAT and graduated from Cornell (I'll have you know I jsut typoed that as "Cornbell") , works in an AIDS research lab and was an EMT for 3 years as well as the standard pre med clubs and hosp volunteering.

Do you guys have similar stats? I'm just really curious! This is so frustrating.

I really want him to get in at UB most but at this point we jsut want an acceptance. I goto PA school in Buffalo so... that'd be ideal.

Good luck everyone and lets keep this thread a going.

I just interviewed recently. Similar GPA but much lower MCAT. I'm curious as to how this "point" system works. Any ideas? I think GPA and MCAT are probably still factors when ranking after the interview.

That's awesome. At least gun laws in Buffalo make sense unlike the gun laws in NYC!

I'm from Niagara Falls (about 10-15 min from buffalo) depending on how fast u drive...
and I got accepted 2 days after interview
Interviewed in march
so I don't think they just waitlist everyone from Buffalo

although Chuck Norris can make it there in 1 min, and got accepted without an interview

A while ago someone posted links to pages on SMBS's website where they had mistakenly left their point system documents open to outsiders. MCAT and GPA are always the main factors. But I think their system has ways of awarding points for everything in the app., EC's, rec. letters, PS, etc. In the end it is similar to other schools, but I think the point system makes it a bit more 'systemized' and objective.

I have found that sarcasm doesn't come across well on the internet 🙄

hey Buffalo waitlisters! I was once one of you! Now I'm a first year, and things are going well (especially right about now because we're on Spring Break). Any questions, let me know...this wasn't my first choice but definitely wasn't my last, and although I'm not from Buffalo I've adapted well. It's a good place to be, not too stressful, lots of great classmates.
It might not help at all to ask Mr. Rosso right now where you are on the list, because this might change! Last year they did a substantial trim on the list around May and rejected a bunch and then told everyone their final spot on the list. They usually divide the list into 9 parts, so you'll get a pretty good impression of where you are--middle of the middle, top of the bottom, bottom of the top, you get the picture.
Regarding your chances, they're pretty good, but you have to be patient. If you're in the top 1/3 traditionally you'll get in fast, then they move through the second 1/3 much more slowly. Last year we got to the tippy top of the bottom 1/3, and two students were accepted during orientation!

Oh, and as far as I know, the link that someone mentioned about UB's whole admission process philosophy being online...I checked it out awhile ago and I'm pretty sure it's legit, not that it really helps you at all. Interesting reading though, can't quite believe that they actually put that online

Hi all,
I'm new here, but got on the WL at Buffalo. What exactly does it mean to be on the bottom thrid of the WL at buffalo? Does it mean I got no shot at ever being accepted? Thanks for your help!

How the hell is everyone on the bottom of their WL?!

I actually got conflicting message from ADCOM.
I wrote email to Mr. Rosso to ask my place on the WL right after I found out my status. But he was on vacation. So I called the office, the lady told me that I was on the upper 3rd. To make sure, I also confirmed twice with her. And a week after I received a email from Mr. Rosso ( I guess he returned to his office after his vacation). He told me that I was at bottom 3rd of the WL. I didn't want to bother him. I guess I would find out where I am exactly in May. 🙁

I thought the final waiting list was made in april??

so has everyone that has heard they were on the buffalo WL told they were on the "bottom third"??

Yeah, but I don't know how much that list is going to move before the mid of May when people start withdraw the acceptance.

mdguy49 said:

Mr. Rosso told me I'm on the bottom third of the WL too... I think out of about 5 ppl here there is one person in the upper third. Statistically, this doesn't make sense but I guess we'll just have to wait until they finalize the list.

Hi I got a question for all you Buffalo waitlisters:
On the admissions website it says their decision was: "Wait list/lettered"
But when I got my letter from them, it says they placed my application in a ""Hold" category". Just wondering if this is what the rest of your letters say. Is this a bad thing??? Is "Hold" worse then "Wait list", or are they the same thing?? Does "Hold" mean that I'm not quite on the "Wait list"?? Maybe I'm reading too much into this! Thanks for your help

hey,
There is no WL right now technically. The WL wont be made for two more weeks. Technically everyone is on hold now and when we say bottom 1/3 we mean bottom third of the hold list. The bottom 1/3 of the hold list is cutoff when the WL is formed. 👎

Ok, thanks for the reply. Well maybe I'm not totally screwed yet.

8 people on here are WL... 7 are the bottom 1/3 and and 1 (willow) is the top 1/3. This is unlikely and some sort of game is probably being played here. There is no way none of us are in the middle 1/3. But who knows, anyone else out there on the UB Wl know where they are?

8 out of 9 of us on the bottom, I dont believe this...its not possible.

Sure it is. Especially if they dont reject many outright. Us bottom of the waitlisters are the emergency group. Plus there are only 8 of us here. Figure 800 interviews, 200 acceptances (to account for the first group that withdraws) thats 600 waitlisters. Im not saying to give up hope. Im still hoping that Buffalo works out too, but be realistic, and hope a lot of people drop off the list.

Whoa your numbers are way off. they only interview 458 last year, not 800 and they have been rejecting a good number post interview this year. I am saying that out of 9 people, 8 on here have the bottom, that seems improbable.

Just estimating...even if you figure 200 people on the waitlist there are still a fair amount that end up bottom third. If it was 38 out of 39 on the botom third I would agree with you.

I think it is just weird that none of the middle 1/3 and only one of the top 1/3 are posting on this thread. I do not except 3 people in each 1/3 posting messages, but 8/9 is a big discrepancy.

Well for all of our sake I hope they are in fact messing with us, but I cant think of a reason why they would do that.

Any reason why they would create a bottom 1/3rd waitlist just to chop it off at the end april? not everything in admisson process makes much sense.

I dont think anyone's messing with you. The top and middle folks are probably not posting. I was placed in middle 1/3 of the waitlist. Hope this helps.

I was one of the lucky ones...interviewed in March and got accepted 2 days later when they update their systems

However, 2 of my friends interviewed at UB:
Feb 22nd == top 1/3 waitlist
March 29th == decision rendered (rejected)

So, basically, I think wherever you fall is where you fall

Hoping the best for all you guys and hope to see you all in August
😉

I'm not on the bottom 1/3. I am in the top third. I said I was in the bottom of the top third.

Hey guys,

I've been on the wait list in Buffalo since I interviewd i.e. Feb8th. I'm in the middle portion of the middle third (as Mr.Rosso informed me). If there are at least 8-10 people in each section and there are only 25 spots left (according to the sdners)...I feel like my chances of getting in are next to none:-(

I do not think that they have less than 100 people on waitlist at the end of interviews. I think there are about 250-300 out of 500 that they interview.

If infact after finishing interviews they will cut off bottom third, then the lower 2 portions of middle will become bottom and upper middle and lower top will be in the middle.

This is all my speculation of course. I do not know what are the actual chances of getting in for middle and bottom waitlisters is (I'm in bottom also).

Yeah there are a lot of people on the waitlist but a lot of people who are holding acceptances or on high up on the waitlist will end up going somewhere else. I think someone calculated last year that each 3rd of the final waitlist had around 80 people on it. And yet they still got through more than 2/3rds of that final waitlist by the time orientation started.

They are done interviewing. Yesterday was the last of the regular interviews. In appx. two weeks they will have a final waitlist where they pull the first batch for acceptance. Then they have the alternate list.

You sure? Mr. Rosso had mentioned to me that they might interview through the 19th.

I second that. I was also told by the admission dept that they will prepare the final waitlist after april 19th when they finish the interviews.

I just spoke to Mr. Rosso and he told me that they finished interviewing yesterday. He also said that the waitlist should start moving soon.

jmazz

So when do you guys think the final list will be out?

I'm in the upper-third as well.

Now that they've wrapped up interviews, hopefully things will start moving very quickly in the next few weeks.

+pissed+ why do they have to drag it on -- acceptances during orientation? ugh

also... when i interviewed, the students were on spring break. does anyone have any idea how the student life/satisfaction is?

Buffalo's not for everyone

Hi guys: there is certainly hope. I interviewed in mid Feb and was sent a 'hold' letter 2 days later. When I called, I was told that I was "top of top 1/3." Still- I wasn't too hopeful, as I've been on hold at one of my top choices since OCT (!). BUT: two weeks ago, I got the big envelope. I think they re-review the holds periodically. Good luck to all of you!!!

So is there a difference between "hold" and "waitlist"? Or is it all the same?

Hey, that's awesome, congrats! And congrats on getting in somewhere you wanna be.

I was checking my status on-line and it changed to Accepted/lettered today! I interviewed there December 7th and was on waiting list up until now (upper 1/3). The good news is that the list started to move. I plan to withdraw, though, so one more spot for you guys. Still, it is my second acceptance, and I was happy to know I got in. Good luck, everyone!

I'm in!!! Just checked my status. I guess they're going through the top 3rd pretty quickly (or I was close to the top...)

Hey Willow18,

Congratulations!!! Just wondering what your status was after they trimmed the waitlist down...right now I'm at the bottom of the 1/3.

Thanks🙂

Have they trimmed the waiting list already?

yea...I called them y'day. Most people in the middle have moved to the top...like me...yay! Still keeping my fingers crossed🙂

I was in top 1/3 after I interviewed last month.
