EMDream said:Hey guys, my boyfriend Styphon also just found out he is WL at Buffalo and is bottom one third. Don't take this the wrong way but it's comforting to know that a lot of you guys are bottom one third too.
He was really dejected over it, I really hope they don't just chop the bottom one third in April....
We live in Buffalo so maybe it's true that they waitlist people from Buffalo.
He's still waiting to hear back from Upstate post interview and the rest he either hasn't heard from (rejections) or was rejected from.
His stats were 3.61 GPA , 31 MCAT and graduated from Cornell (I'll have you know I jsut typoed that as "Cornbell") , works in an AIDS research lab and was an EMT for 3 years as well as the standard pre med clubs and hosp volunteering.
Do you guys have similar stats? I'm just really curious! This is so frustrating.
I really want him to get in at UB most but at this point we jsut want an acceptance. I goto PA school in Buffalo so... that'd be ideal.
Good luck everyone and lets keep this thread a going.

glockdoc said:I just interviewed recently. Similar GPA but much lower MCAT. I'm curious as to how this "point" system works. Any ideas? I think GPA and MCAT are probably still factors when ranking after the interview.
glockdoc said:That's awesome. At least gun laws in Buffalo make sense unlike the gun laws in NYC!
mdguy49 said:Hi all,
I'm new here, but got on the WL at Buffalo. What exactly does it mean to be on the bottom thrid of the WL at buffalo? Does it mean I got no shot at ever being accepted? Thanks for your help!
BOBODR said:How the hell is everyone on the bottom of their WL?!
I thought the final waiting list was made in april??mdage said:I guess I would find out where I am exactly in May. 🙁
Yeah, but I don't know how much that list is going to move before the mid of May when people start withdraw the acceptance.mdguy49 said:I thought the final waiting list was made in april??
mdguy49 said:so has everyone that has heard they were on the buffalo WL told they were on the "bottom third"??
hey,mdguy49 said:Hi I got a question for all you Buffalo waitlisters:
On the admissions website it says their decision was: "Wait list/lettered"
But when I got my letter from them, it says they placed my application in a ""Hold" category". Just wondering if this is what the rest of your letters say. Is this a bad thing??? Is "Hold" worse then "Wait list", or are they the same thing?? Does "Hold" mean that I'm not quite on the "Wait list"?? Maybe I'm reading too much into this! Thanks for your help
mdguy49 said:Ok, thanks for the reply. Well maybe I'm not totally screwed yet.
BOBODR said:8 people on here are WL... 7 are the bottom 1/3 and and 1 (willow) is the top 1/3. This is unlikely and some sort of game is probably being played here. There is no way none of us are in the middle 1/3. But who knows, anyone else out there on the UB Wl know where they are?
P0310 said:I am on botton 1/3 too. I found out in january. I live and buffalo and went to UB for my undergrad. i had my interview in august.
BOBODR said:8 out of 9 of us on the bottom, I dont believe this...its not possible.
Whoa your numbers are way off. they only interview 458 last year, not 800 and they have been rejecting a good number post interview this year. I am saying that out of 9 people, 8 on here have the bottom, that seems improbable.nontradwaitlist said:Sure it is. Especially if they dont reject many outright. Us bottom of the waitlisters are the emergency group. Plus there are only 8 of us here. Figure 800 interviews, 200 acceptances (to account for the first group that withdraws) thats 600 waitlisters. Im not saying to give up hope. Im still hoping that Buffalo works out too, but be realistic, and hope a lot of people drop off the list.

P0310 said:I think it is just weird that none of the middle 1/3 and only one of the top 1/3 are posting on this thread. I do not except 3 people in each 1/3 posting messages, but 8/9 is a big discrepancy.
Any reason why they would create a bottom 1/3rd waitlist just to chop it off at the end april? not everything in admisson process makes much sense.nontradwaitlist said:Well for all of our sake I hope they are in fact messing with us, but I cant think of a reason why they would do that.

Kazema said:Yeah there are a lot of people on the waitlist but a lot of people who are holding acceptances or on high up on the waitlist will end up going somewhere else. I think someone calculated last year that each 3rd of the final waitlist had around 80 people on it. And yet they still got through more than 2/3rds of that final waitlist by the time orientation started.
vjkv said:They are done interviewing. Yesterday was the last of the regular interviews. In appx. two weeks they will have a final waitlist where they pull the first batch for acceptance. Then they have the alternate list.
I second that. I was also told by the admission dept that they will prepare the final waitlist after april 19th when they finish the interviews.willow18 said:You sure? Mr. Rosso had mentioned to me that they might interview through the 19th.

So is there a difference between "hold" and "waitlist"? Or is it all the same?MySillyum said:Hi guys: there is certainly hope. I interviewed in mid Feb and was sent a 'hold' letter 2 days later. When I called, I was told that I was "top of top 1/3." Still- I wasn't too hopeful, as I've been on hold at one of my top choices since OCT (!). BUT: two weeks ago, I got the big envelope. I think they re-review the holds periodically. Good luck to all of you!!!
yyd said:I was checking my status on-line and it changed to Accepted/lettered today! I interviewed there December 7th and was on waiting list up until now (upper 1/3). The good news is that the list started to move. I plan to withdraw, though, so one more spot for you guys. Still, it is my second acceptance, and I was happy to know I got in. Good luck, everyone!
willow18 said:I'm in!!! Just checked my status. I guess they're going through the top 3rd pretty quickly (or I was close to the top...)
