I'm in!!! Just checked my status. I guess they're going through the top 3rd pretty quickly (or I was close to the top...)
Congrats! See you in August, if not sooner!

nyb, I've got my fingers crossed for you!

One of my classmates on the waitlist was told to wait until Friday to call to see if his status changed...seems like the odds are in his favor the way it sounds like things are moving!

Hey thanks SwineLake,

If your classmate is anywhere in the top third...he'll probably get an acceptance any day. I just wish they'd tell me within the next week so I don't have to take the April MCATs...booohoooo!

I just called to find out my status and the lady answering the phone told me that Mr. Rosso is with the interviewees today.
I think they have just started to move the waitlist but they are still interviewing until 19th.

OMG!!! I can't believe this..after all the waiting...does this mean that we could still be bumped down or out of the waitlist if the students who are interviewing now rank higher?

:-( I hope not! I'm pulling for you nyb, and everyone else hoping to get off the waitlist!

Just to let you know, was accepted of WL and will be giving up spot.

Hey everyone,

just to let you know....I know a kid who got accepted the First day of Classes! to UB...so, don't worry, hang in there...as long as you are on the higher end of the waitlist...you have a darn good chance

crossing my fingers for y'all

👍

they are interviewing today, but not for the first year class. it's for other programs. hope this helps!

Hey guys,

Thanks for the support BigRock...I really appreciate it🙂.

btw...I just called the Admissions Office and the lady told me that they're definitely done interviewing for the regular spots. The interview being done today is for the 'early assurance' people. I dunno if they're put on the same waitlist as us or they have a different wait list going...grrr!

The early assurance program is for sophomores at UB. So there's no worries about them taking our slots, mate.

the early assurance interviewees will not be part of the 2010 class. i think they're for next year's class.

good deal...one less thing to worry about...phew!

Hey guys,

Does anyone know what my chances are of getting off the wait list in the next 1 week...I really don't wanna take the april MCAT if I don't have to (which is like the following saturday...sigh!)? btw...my position is bottom of 1/3.

Thanks

Being in the bottom third, I would say your chances of getting off the waitlist before April's MCAT are practically zero.

Moreover, I don't mean to be a downer here, but it may be unlikely that you receive an offer from Buffalo. I recall during my interview day that historically, UB has gone through as few as only the top-third with a couple from the middle to as much as two-thirds of the waitlist.

But it's still too early to tell really. Depending on who drops out of the waitlist ahead of you, you're position may change dramatically.

Do you happen to know what part of the bottom third your in, say the highest part?

hmmm...I think you misunderstood me I said that I was at the BOTTOM of the TOP THIRD.

I withdrew today but I was on the bottom 1/3 so basically I just prevented rejection. Good luck to you guys who want to go there and are on the WL.

They will actually be class of 2012 😀

Yup, I interviewed as a sophomore.
I'm glad they're doing the early assurance on a separate day. I went to the last interview session for that fall's class, and there was definitely some confusion going on.

do you know where he was on the waitlist around this time?

I believe that the 2 students who made it in during orientation (for the class of 2009) were in the top of the bottom 1/3.
I also know of at least 2, maybe 3 other classmates who got in on Thursday or Friday (when we were starting that Monday). They were presumably also in that section of the waitlist. Don't forget, after mid-June all acceptances are made with a phone call, and you have to (1) answer and (2) respond immediately, or they move to the next person. So the waitlist moves a lot in those final days.

I just called today. The lady at admissions office told me that I am at the bottom of 2/3. What is my chance 😕 😱

On the AMCAS, I have both my home phone and cell phone. Which number are they going to call if they want to contact me? Does anyone know? Thanks

Hey mdage,

I'm in the bottom of the top third...so I know for sure that they're not even done with the top third waitlisters yet. But, my cousin is currently a first year at Buffalo and she told me that they went all the way through the middle third last year...for sure! Anyways...hang in there..we're all in the same boat...🙂

Hey all,

I was wondering....should we start a poll of all the people who have been accepted and what their position was on the waitlist...I'm not sure if this is just gonna freak us all or help us?!

any thoughts, fellow waitlisters?!

Just to clarify my comment about the phone calls--you are allowed to send the school a list of numbers (as many as you want) and they will go down the list until they reach a human being. It doesn't have to be you. BUT that person has to get in contact with you and you have to call Buffalo back before the end of the day, or you lose your spot. If they do not get through to anyone on your list, you lose your spot. This doesn't start until June, though.

Last year we had a pretty awesome indication of where they were up to on the list by just having everyone who got in post where they were in the waitlist. That seemed to work fine. Like, I'm pretty sure we knew the exact day they entered the middle 1/3 and ridiculous stuff like that.

Thanks Supercluster,

Guys, does anyone know how to create a poll?!!! I have no idea how to do this...!!!

Hey all,

I just created a thread for the poll. It'd be great if everyone who got in take the poll....it'd really help all the other waitlisters out🙂

I have a quick question: Would writing a LOI be worth it, or is it just a waste of time since it's a ranked waiting list?

Now, I'm not gonna lie and say I didn't write any LOI's because I did, but the fact is that UB is pretty firm about the fact that your rank cannot change. I always thought, well, it can't hurt, but it didn't change anything either. So you might as well just wait it out and use your time to do something fun. 🙂

Thanks for the help supercluster

Actually I asked Mr. Rosso about this when I was on the WL in December. He told me to write one if I felt obliged too and address it to Dean Severin (sp?). I think if your OOS it may help as it would have been for me. I think an update with why ur so interested in the school will help. Also when UB's "notes" were accidentally available online they said how they had to cover themselves if they decided to cherry pick off the list.....

Interesting. That is true, about the cherry picking, but I always thought that was more likely to benefit Western NY'ers because they're more likely to commit to attend the school on like a days notice. But I guess this is why we all write update letters, even though 99% of the waitlisters who got in were admitted solely due to their rank on the list. Anyways, the waitlist season is just getting started, so hang in there everyone. 👍
Severin is the correct spelling, btw. He's the 1st and 2nd year Dean.

I wish I still had the email from Rosso from back then, but I simply asked if it was adivasable to send updates/letters of interest and he said "I certainly should if I feel obliged to". At that point I was in the bottom 1/3. I wouldnt be surprised if there is a different WL though for IS and OOS. I mean according to US news 84% of OOS who interviewed were admitted. I know a ton of OOS who withdrew after being WL so it seems like everyone OOS who interviews gets in. So if your OOS ,perhaps a letter that just says I am interested will get you moved up and over people who show no interest at a certain point.

This thread is so quiet!

Has anyone received the alternate letter from UB?

what is an alternate letter? Do you mean waiting list?

whoops...I'm not sure, but I thought the final waitlist is called the alternate list. Last time when I spoke to Mr. Rosso, he said that we should receive a letter from the Dean soon. Does anyone know if this waitlist/alternate list has moved this week?

FYI, I contacted Mr. Rosso yesterday and they have finalized people's ranks on the waitlist.

So if you don't know where you stand officially, you might want to give him a ring.

I have just called Mr. Rosso. They told me soon they will send a mail to all the people who are on the waitlist. The mail contains a form that will ask us for a list of phone numbers. They will try to call those numbers when they decide to offer us an acceptance. Let's keep our fingers crossed! 👍

If you take a peek at your status page, it should have changed to say either "Alternate/Lettered" or "Final Decision Rendered", unless they've changed things from last year. One of those means the Alternate list, I'll let you guess which one that is.

Has anyone's status page changed to "Alternate"...mine still says..."Waitlist/Lettered"...is this a bad sign...I called Mr.Rosso about my spot on the final waitlist though...has he given anyone info. about their actual ranking???

Also, I read the posts about the LOI letters...is there like a deadline for sending those in?

Mine still says Waitlist/Lettered.

hey mdguy,

I just spoke to Mr.Rosso..he said that our online status is not gonna change to "Alternate" even if we are on the final waitlist...according to him the next change we're gonna see online is if we get rejected "decision rendered" or accepted (yipeeeee!) "accepted"...just some random info.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share with you that I am currently on the SUNY Buffalo waiting list as well. I am hoping to get off the waiting list, but I am not sure what my chances are. I am currently in the "upper third" of the waiting list, but in the lowest portion of it. Good luck to everyone and I hope Buffalo pulls through.

There is alot of movement and they are almost through the entire top of the top third.

I don't mean to sound too skeptical, but where did you get this information from? I am curious because I am at the top of the middle third.

thanks a lot

I have a question for anyone...As Buffalo moves along the waitlist do they re-adjust your position on the waitlist to move you up or does your position stay the same?

Thanks in advanced
