Hey guys/gals

did anyone have interview with ot SUNY Downstate? what questions they give on the essay prior to interview?

OT2013NY- I got an email on Dec 20th inviting me for an interview. I think their admissions process goes on for the next few months at least, so don't worry! I've been reading forums from last year and people were still getting asked for interviews in February.

i just had interview at downstate. interview was very simple, i had alumni talking to me, who asked me general questions about my past experience, challenges and where do i see myself in the future.

BTW those of you who had interview at Downstate? who was the intreviewer? mine was Alumni student from Downstate OT program, has anyone met with director or any other professors for interview?

Thanks!! Yes, its my first time applying. I had originally planned on applying last year but decided to hold off and finish my prereqs at a slower pace. 🙂)

when did you all send in your stuff?

i just checked the admissions checklist too and i have only 2 outstanding X's for the verified bachelors degree and a final transcript.
but if i am to hear from them, i hear via email?

I actually just got accepted yesterday. The interview and essay were fairly easy; you just had to sum up an article and discuss why you wanted to be an OT, leadership qualities, etc.

haha okay! nerves are definitely a bit more calm. i had exchanged emails with them today too, they're just waiting on receiving my transcript from fall 🙂

I wouldn't be too nervous; they told me at my interview that I would hear in about a month. If you interviewed on the 27th then you're just hitting the one month mark. Hopefully you'll hear this week!

I wouldn't worry yet at all! I received my acceptance by letter and she told me I would hear back by the end of February, March so I definitely would not start to worry.

For dancer715 and madusa- on your checklist does it say "accepted/alternate checklist"? My checklist was updated today and the admissions office couldn't tell me over the phone if that means I am accepted or on the alternate list. I guess I will be very anxiously awaiting a letter in the next few days!

Underneath the 'OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, M.S. POST INITIAL REVIEW CHECKLIST' table, there is, yes, an 'ACCEPTED/ALTERNATE LIST OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, M.S. CHECKLIST and then under that is a "STUDENT HEALTH ACCEPTED/ALTERNATE LIST APPLICANT CHECKLIST" table. I'm sure you'll find out soon then!

Yes, the checklist should indicate "Accepted/Alternate List" as dancer715 stated, and a letter should be arriving soon. Good luck!! 🙂

Is it common for people to have an interview and not get accepted? I guess I kind of thought that since I had an earlyish one (dec 27) and thought it went well that I would get in but my checklist isn't updated, I haven't gotten a letter and I'm basically feeling rejected at this point! This process is so painful.

Hey Where did you find the checklist? is it on the website?

They sent an email with the link to the checklist, my username, and password when my online application was received back in November. This is the link to the student portal: http://spelunker.downstate.edu/admissions/admissions-checklist/source/portal_logon.asp

You might have to search back in your email to find your username and password, though. Good luck 🙂

I interviewed on 1/27.I am so nervous.Can someone be denied admission after an interview?

yes.... you can get denied after having interview. think of it this way, you have 400 people on averege that apply each year. Out of all 400 people, lets say approximately 100 will have at least 95-100% of their applicaition complete and seem like a good candidate. These are the people who are likely to be invited for interviews, and you know how many spots are available 1/3 will have to be cut or put on waitlist

I haven't participated in the forum up to this point, but I have been greatly helped by all the comments posted here so far. I interviewed on January 31st with Dr. Sabari and just recieved my acceptance letter today (after having been thouroughly confused and teased by seeing that new "Accepted/Alternate" heading pop up in my checklist, as other people have posted about)! I am so thrilled and relieved, since Downstate is the only program I applied to. Excited to join all the already accepted forum participants in June!
