Hey guys! I've been reading people who were invited for interviews to SUNY and it's making me a little nervous because everyone has high GPAs and good OAT scores. I've been invited, but my scores aren't so great for both. Can anyone give me some ideas of why SUNY would interview a student with a low GPA and low OAT scores?

Don't be intimidated. Have confidence! They prolly invited you b/c they were interested and want to get to know you as a person (aside from just numbers). 🙂

If you're worried about your OAT/GPA, you could give admissions a call. I remember calling them last year about my physics score on the OAT, wondering if it was too low.

How did you know I was feeling intimidated?? LoL Yea I was feeling very little looking at everyone else's scores :/ But thank you for your reply--that's exactly what I plan on doing 🙂

Don't worry! They probably saw something in your app/essay that made them want to interview you. Their stats are all averages. Even though their stats are high, doesn't mean they don't take people under their averages. I definitely had stats under their averages and I was able to interview at SUNY. As long as you're confident and "be yourself," you should be fine.

I agree with all the other posts for me. My academic qualifications were also a little below their averages but I was still accepted.

In my opinion, just by them offering you an interview says a lot about what they think of you already. In their eyes, you have met the minimum qualifications "on paper" and because of that they want to get to know you as an individual. At the interview, if they see that you have potential as a student at SUNY and that your personality fits what they are looking for, then you'll get accepted in.

As for advice from me, I'd say definitely get to know yourself... your past, your aspirations, your goals, your motivations, and what you wrote in your personal statement. The SDN interview feedback was definitely helpful as I used those questions as prep for my own interview. I interviewed back in the beginning of December and the interviewers were definitely one of the nicest people I've ever met. Have confidence in your answers and make all your responses personal and unique.. if you do that you'll be fine. Good luck! Maybe we'll be classmates, lol.

Thanks, this was really helpful! I also have interview coming up at SUNY and although I have a high GPA 3.8, I have low OAT 290 so i'm worried that I won't get in cause of the low OAT.
Thanks for the advice!
