I'm new to this forum and I wanted to join because I was in need of a support group since I was also placed on the HPA list. I interviewed on Feb. 13th and received an email informing me that I was on the list on Feb. 29th. I was sad at first because like Rootsman I only interviewed at Upstate and I really want to go there! But after reading the comments on this form I am feeling happy and hopeful again. Thank you! 🙂

I'm thinking about emailing the admission office, like BlackPower did, to see where I stand. Regarding that, BlackPower I wanted to ask you if you can please tell me to whom did you address your email? I know you emailed the admission office at [email protected] but I want to know if I should address my email to Jennifer Welch. Thank you in advance BlackPower!

If you are wondering what should go at "Dear _____", don't worry, it will go to the right person whether you say Jennifer Welch or Admissions Committee or whatever, I don't think it makes much difference. You could also call them, since they are very nice and the response will be much faster. Good luck!
 
Thanks BigRedder! I did and they told me I was in the "grey area". BlackPower2012 and I have come to the conclusion that this means that some years they reach my position and some years they don't. This year I'm praying that they do reach my position. I'm trying to stay very positive since it is all I can do! But it is so hard to maintain a positive attitude.
 
Hey Futuredoc, I think it may be about a week or two before they get back to you. The turnover rate is about 3 weeks.

I interviewed in september and was put on the HPA 10/15. I also sent them an e-mail asking about my position on the list and they said "we typically do reach beyond your position on the waitlist, but we cannot guarantee anything since things are different year to year" and that if I haven't heard anything by june to call them.

I cant tell if this is something worth getting my hopes up?
 
You should get your hopes up-I got a similar message. If you look at previous years on this site, there were poeple who were told that they may not get to them, so you are pretty much gonna get in.

when i log on to the status page, it does not show the status or decision - just posts my application details - is there a way that i can get to an actual status? thx so much for all your help!

When they have made a decision, a new line will appear that says decision made. It won't say what the decision was, and that information won't be posted any where on the website. For more detail you can look at a prior post I made higher up in this thread.

I called yesterday and the the admissions office said that my application has not gone to committee yet. She said they meet every Wednesday. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow since my interview. Hopefully I will hear something this week.

I really hope I get it, I really loved my visit there.

I interviewed 4 weeks ago and still have not heard anything (and have no status page change)...I, too, loved Upstate...so I really hope we get some good news SOON! 😀:luck:
 
Look tomorrow morning, they are meeting tonight. Or better yet, if you can, don't look. It will just make you anxious. Trust me on that. You won't be able to sleep until you find out.

You are so right... I am so nervous/anxious to know!!! Would the status page really be updated that quickly, though (by tomorrow already)? Thanks for the info, by the way🙂
 
They usually change the status page as soon as the put you on the HPA list. If you were accepted, they would call you within a week like they did with Bigredder, but since its this last in the stage, I am sure you would get a call no later than Monday after they made the decision. If a decision has been made and the page was changed, and you were not notified for HPA via email, within two days, you were either accepted, low priority, or rejected.

Ok, I checked the status page and still no change...but I have to say, I really don't like how this process is making me so OCD with the whole checking the status page thing (I'm checking it like every hour)!!!:laugh:

I just called the Admissions office and the very kind gentlemen told me that my application has not gone to committee yet, but he did say that next Wednesday will be the last day the committee meets. It seems they are a little backed up.

So, it seems that for us that have not heard anything yet, next week is judgement day. Good luck to everyone. I can't express enough how much I want to go to this school.
 
Ugg...I really hope that mine has been reviewed already (since I am going crazy waiting 🙂 and I interviewed over a month ago) but I am too chicken to call the admissions office and ask...!!

If they reviewed you I'm pretty sure the page would have changed by now, have you checked since yesterday?
 
ugh...Status page changed and I havent heard anything...😱
 
How long ago did your status page change? I would check my email constantly within the next few days to see if you received a HPA place. If not, it may be a possible rejection. But on a positive note, there have been people who were accepted within a week of status page being changed.

I didn't get the call the same day my status page changed. It changed on Wednesday and I got the call Thursday kind of late in the day which I didn't answer. On Friday I also got an email from a student telling me about the summer anatomy program, so I found out by email instead of phone. There's a chance there could be a delay for you.

Hey it took them nearly a week to call me after a status change. When they called me they told me that somehow they had looked over my name and that was way they took so long to call me. So I would give it a week before I’d give my hopes up on an acceptance phone call.

Good luck to all of you with upstate. It has a fantastic program. I'm hoping to hear about financial aid soon so I can decide whether or not I will be holding onto my spot in the class.
 
Hey guys, Can someone explain what people mean when they write "bump"? I never really understood that phrase. I apologize in advance for my ignorance concerning this matter. on a lighter note, did anyone hear any good news as of late?

i think the 'bump' is done to bring the thread to attention again since it might get pushed back in the forum if no one's posting.

As for the post-interview wait, I got the call on a Thursday around 7pm-ish. I think my status changed the day before. And if you're placed on HPA list don't sweat it, I heard most people end up getting in.

And for all you guys expecting financial packages - it'll suck big time. Maybe because the tuition is relatively lower, they decide to give you almost everything in loans, well they'll probably throw in a mediocre scholarship. Or maybe I'm just ungrateful.😉

Hey Cestmoi, thanks. I heard that most people on HPA get in eventually. Have you guys began looking for housing? I hear that Madison towers are impossible to get into. Is that true?

As of right now, only townhouses are available at Madison, and from what I hear, they're not expected to last much longer/ big turnover year, apparently lots of the townhouses right now are in the hands of MS4's.
Jefferson too is very booked up.
 
I got the last one-bedroom in Jefferson last week, and it may not be available till the end of August...
 
Bigredder, did you try applying for a bedroom at Madison? If so, what did they tell you? Thanks in advance

I did not, though I was told by the manager of Jefferson that she believed that Madison had a few two bedrooms. However, they may not be there anymore. It is worth calling.

At 5:55 the admissions office called and left me a message to call them tomorrow. I have not had a status change yet, but I know I was on the agenda for today's committee meeting. I will let ya'll know in the morning.

Congrats! I don't think they would call you for anything else. Imagine if they did:

Applicant: Hello
Admissions: Hello. This is xxxx from SUNY Upstate Medical University. May I speak with Mr.X?
Applicant: Yes! This is he.
Admissions: I just wanted to say that I regret to inform you that you were rejected.
Applicant: Oh...*sobbing
Admissions: Um...Have a nice day. *click
 
I just confirmed my withdraw from Upstate. So someone will hear something nice soon I hope.

No it doesnt. It jut means that there is one spot open to accept someone off of the HPA list. It will start moving by May.

As for apts in Madison, I got an offer last week but I couldn't hold it due to my indecision at this point. The lady said there were a few (~5 or so) remaining. If anything Clark Tower always got your back 😀

No one from HPA will get a phone call until sometime in May-August because all of those with multiple accceptances will withdraw if they opt to attend another school.
