Congratulations flyingblue! Wish you the best in your medical education and future career, and thank you for letting us know.flyingblue said:hey guys,
So I called Carolyn Couch and found that I got a spot at Binghamton. However, I think I will pass it on because now I have decided to go on to another school!! So good luck you guys!

aau22 said:Hey guys,
I just called and I don't know if this will make anyone feel better but I was told they have not made the bulk of their calls yet. At first basically she implied they havent called anyone and said well we have called some, but it sounds like the list is yet to start really moving. Hope this helps!!! 🙂 Good luck to all!
Didn't you hear?medschool9 said:Did they say when it might start moving???

It already started moving.
Just like we already won the Iraq war....
I was being facetious. 😛medschool9 said:I meant.... when will the "Bulk of their calls" begin to take place?
aau22 said:She didn't tell me but really seemed to stress that they hadn't really begun to make calls yet. Made me feel a lot better about things. Also asked my name and told me my spot on the list has always been reached so I felt a little more hopeful after today!
aau22 said:I never ask for anyone usually I just try to talk to whoever picks up. Last time I called, the person was a stonewall and didn't give me anything but today the person was extremely friendly and I didn't even ask for info about my spot. When she asked my name I assumed it was just to record it as an interest call but she right away told me how my position has been reached usually so I think its just luck of the draw who picks up.

I would feel like a pretty big a$$ if I turned down a Binghamton spot and it later turned out I could not get a Syracuse spot and did not get accepted anywhere. After all, isn't it exactly the same except for 3rd and 4th year? I mean, everybody takes years 1 and 2 courses together at Syracuse anyway, so I suppose you have two years to try and switch, right?
The reason I am hesitant about Binghamton is that I have absolutely zero interest in community/family medicine and internal medicine. I would rather pursue another career than do IM. I am most seriously headed in the neurosurgery/surgery direction (possibly emergency medicine or trauma surgery). I imagine it is not impossible to match into residencies in those areas from a clinical experience at Binghamton, but it seems as though it's certainly not the mission or expertise of that campus. However, if there is more autonomy and less competition for procedures because fewer people at that campus are interested in those specialties then I could see that as a positive.Darth Asclepius said:Don't count on being able to switch. It's not nearly as easy as some people think. You have to apply to swith and you need a good reason ("I don't like Binghamtom" or "I don't want to move" is not a good reason). For every person that switches from Binghamtom to Syracuse, one person must switch from Syracuse to Binghamtom because they have a set class size. If you are accepted to Binghamton, plan on going to Binghamton. There is a chance you will be able to switch, but don't count on it.
Good luck to all of you.

Facing the possibility of having to wait a year and reapply or going offshore and then trying to match into surgery seems like an even worse proposition than Binghamton, however.

I didn't get any calls yet, but I did check off that I would accept a spot at either campus, although I listed Syracuse as my preference.medschool9 said:Just wondering....all of you guys who got calls... which option did you check off on your syracuse or binghamton form? I checked off only Syracuse and im afraid thats gonna really hurt me...
medstylee said:i checked off that i would take either campus and ms. couch just offered me a syracuse spot (wow, totally unexpected!). good luck to you guys.
