Ok guys...I'm pretty sure that this may have been addressed already but through a quick search I couldn't really find the answer to my question.

I'm a 1st yr with the Army HPSP and I just find that I need some additional funds to kind of balance myself out. That means that I need to take out a small loan. I was told that I would be able to get a loan through USAA (the Pre-Commission one) but when I called them up to ask them about it, they said I wouldn't be eligible for that until 18 months prior to my graduation date (which would mean a good 2.5 yrs from now hehehe). So I guess I'm wondering,

Is anyone else taking out a loan for a little extra money to get them through? If so, is it through the gvt or is it private?
Should I go to my school's finance department and see if they can offer me any solutions?

Thanks so much in advance! 🙂

Go to your school's financial aid office. I took out a small loan the last two years to help give me a little buffer on spending. You can fill out FAFSA and sometimes they can offer you a private loan through the school. Talk to them.

max out your subsidized loans. you can do whatever you want with them (i.e. put them into mutual funds). then when you're finished, get an officer loan to refinance it at a lower rate.

Thanks guys!! I really appreciate your suggestions. I am going to go to my school's finance office on Monday.
