Hey all,

I am currently working on the supplementary application for a few schools. Some of them don't have a word/character limit for their open ended questions and I have have written a considerable amount for most of these questions (300-600 words each). Do you think it is better to elaborate and include a lot of examples/points, or would it be better to just keep it short and sweet while still making your point?

UNC has a really detailed secondary. My first draft with all of my responses was super long, but I cut stuff out and brought it down in size. My answers ranged from 1-3 paragraphs. I know you want to do your secondaries justice, but you also don't want to say TOO much--adcoms have a lot of these to read! It's okay to have a few longer responses in there, I think, so long as you also have some shorter ones.

UNC asked 14 questions, and only 13 of them applied to me. My longest response had 428 words, and it was three solid paragraphs about "activities that demonstrated my ability to work with others." My shortest was 40 words about "my performance on the DAT." I think that 600 words is too long. I could have easily written 600 words on any of the questions, but you have to be a bit more concise. 🙂 Good luck!

Thank you! I was actually doing the UNC app when I thought of this question. That helps a lot.

anyone know whats a reasonable time to respond and submit back the secondaries for schools like Western and UNLV where they say to submit the secondary with your dental app

I'd say 10 days. I think ECU gives a strict limit of 10 days (from what I've read on here) and that sounds pretty reasonable.

I'll go with that. A good week or so max. At this level, everyone should be able to handle that. I knew a couple of people who took several weeks. Nothing screams you really want it like taking a month and a half to return a secondary. Especially simple ones.
