It's around 8 pm Friday night, and I'm sittin at home perusing SDN because I really really despise the Ohio supplemental.

This is very sad. Anyone else in the same situation??? Who's still working on their apps? I can't be the only one right???

I keep going to the "VMCAS... how far along are you thread," and all I see are people relieved to be done. Congrats to all of you, but you're making me feel soooo lonely! ...so I thought I might start a little support group.

late bloomers/procrastinators unite!

Once you're done... you can exit our club and join the "finished and excited group"

I don't know if I'm eligible for membership since I have submitted my VMCAS, but I still have the Cornell supplemental and the Tufts application to go, neither of which I have even logged on to in WEEEEKS. I'm very much in denial about these, and keep using all the exams I have in my classes next week as an excuse to keep putting Cornell and Tufts off (luckily their due dates are a little later). Judging by the amount of time it took me to drag myself through the OSU supplemental (I totally feel you here... that thing was hell), I may be shedding some tears over the Cornell supplemental.

So I am definitely not celebrating anything yet, and I am totally with you. Pity partiers unite!

Hey

Yes, I am part of this group (sadly).
I need to finish editting my PS and finish up filling in the Vet/Animal experiences section which for some reason seems really daunting at the moment.
The GRE study books sitting across the room from me aren't helping to increase my focus (ie I need to study for them as well since I am taking them next thursday!😱).

NCSU is due... soon... and needs a bit of editing but its all there. MSU and Iowa are in and done!😀
More to work on after this Western is next one due for me and is a work in progress.... big week ahead and the s**t is gonna hit the fan! Bruce springsteen concerts, papers, homework, exams, applications... how is a girl to survive!? And I'm going back to work now (on a lovely friday night). Good luck!

i have 3 supplementals left and i have hit a wall on them. grrrr 😡

Okay.. VMCAS is done other than the PS and entering in GRE scores.

I more than halfway done my other apps (Tufts, Tuskegee) and need to finish my supplimentals (ISU,CSU and Missouri)

I also need to finish my statement for Ross. hmmm

Congrats to all that are finished!

I was editing and reediting my essay I think right up until the day VMCAS was due... they say the system freezes but I had no problems, hopefully you're either less of a slacker than I was or you at least have the same luck with the website 😉

Best of luck with all of your apps!

Oh me, I'm a member of the group! I'm so hot and cold on this application. I finished the VMCAS, my professor and anyone I've shown them to have given the stamp of approval on my PS & explanation, but I haven't submitted them yet. Nor have I had all of my transcripts mailed to all of the schools yet, or my GRE scores. And don't even ask me about the research statements of purpose I have to write for the dual degree programs. They are pathetic, meaning all supplementals are incomplete! And what have I done in the last 48 hours?

-bought a new bicycle
-mangled my knee
-went to the gym twice despite mangling my knee
-went to the mall
-submitted fantasy football starting lineups
-chatted on IRC

Note that none of these things have anything to do with my applications. Yup.

Oooh high five! I'm pretty much exactly where you are (minus the research statements of purpose since I'm not going DVM/PhD), except I did send my transcripts and GRE scores.

I meant to write all of my Ohio essays tonight... but I ended up cooking and eating with my boyfriend, watching 2 episodes of SVU, and I'm going to bed now so I can go to six flags tomorrow during the day and run some late night experiments. I'll be bringing my laptop for my 2 hr ride each way to six flags though. sigh... I'm just such a weanie I just can't hit that submit button on the vmcas...

kudos for workin out despite injuries. i'm totally all in one piece and the last time i worked out was for gym class back in college (required for graduation).

Nice wheels, nyanko!

I'm glad that I'm not the only one with multiple supplementals to do. Sadly, when I was whittling down my list of schools (so hard to do), the main (petty) reason Ohio got axed is because I couldn't face their long supplemental. 😛

I, too, was editing and revising my application very late in the game last year and didn't submit until September 27th. I'm pretty sure that I was ****ting bricks by that point, so I don't recommend taking as long as I did LOL.

Good luck to you all, and just remember to hang in there, guys. The REAL torture begins after you submit lol.

Nyanko, I have the same bike. Well, the 2007 model, which is a ridiculous neon green color.
I don't comment much and am not submitting VMCAS this year, but just wanted to say that the jake the snake is an awesome bike, and you will love it. Do you ride cross, or are you planning to put road flats on it and use it for commuting?

I'm getting kind of tempted to do that... I mean gosh I hate those questions 😡

"tell me about a time when you..."

who the fudge is "ME"???

Rather than it being a supplemental app, it sounds a lot more like a therapy session... at least those are supposed to be helpful... these questions just make me feel like a tool 👎

I usually go 3-4 times a week, anyway. And going with my knee messed up was not on the top 100 list of smart things I've done. But nothing motivates me like trying to procrastinate something else. 😉

And yes, my new bicycle is going to be awesome I can't wait for it to get here!!! The estimated arrival date at my local bike store is Oct 2nd, haha, so after I click submit I'm going to practically sprint down there and get it! (assuming the sports med doctor doesn't chain me up somewhere for refusing to take a break from working out/hockey)

canis13: I am buying it for commuting, though I'm not putting road tires on it. My commute goes through some gravelly/muddy/rough trails so that's why I went with a cyclocross rather than a road bike. However, I am not entirely ruling out completely falling in love with it and wanting to start cyclocross racing, too! 😉

Minnerbelle: HAVE FUN AND RIDE SOME ROLLERCOASTERS FOR ME!!

"tell me about a time when you..."

I hated those questions too.... And thought my answers to them were pretty bad.

And yet here I am a year later living in Ohio. Sitting up at 1:30 in the morning studying canine anatomy.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I am quite happy I didn't pass those up.

Do NOT give up on Ohio because of the supplemental questions! Last year they gave us 10 days from the time they e-mailed them to you, which also happened to be a horribly busy time for me. I had been working on them throughout but actually remember getting off work at 9pm on the Friday night they were due and sent it in at ~11pm (it was due at midnight)!

My advice to you is to complete the essays. They don't have to be the most amazing thing ever written on the face of the earth, but make sure you answer each of the questions within the paragraph of questions. Give examples to back up what you say; show don't tell. I know I got asked about one of my answers in my interview. Do not blow it off, it counts for points within their 100 point system...and every point helps!

Good luck, we know your pain! 🙂

Sitting up at 1:30 in the morning studying canine anatomy.

Haha, glad to know my roomie and I weren't the only ones to actually study anatomy late on a Friday night! 😀

Thanks David and Rachroo! I whine and complain, but I will get the Ohio supps done. I have a couple of awesome responses that I can't just throw away... I'm just all gripey about the rest of the icky questions. I know I'm just going to laugh about it as soon as I end up in vet school eventually (hopefully this cycle) and studying canine anatomy on a Friday night! That makes me really fired up actually, i'm super jealous! ugh... and yes, at least I've had more than 10 days to work on it!

Off to six flags I go! I'll def ride all the rollercoasters for you Nyanko! Just not the rides that go in circles over and over :barf:. what's exciting is that I'm a whole 60 inches tall, so I can ride EVERYTHING! woohoo!

i submitted another supplemental today. the 2 essays came out of nowhere and i was able to complete it in no time EARLY this morning. only one more to go. not due til nov 1 i think. 😀

Hey, could someone please answer a question from the other side of applying, from someone who did all of her applications on paper back in the last millennium?

I was asked about a week ago to write a reference letter after another reference fell through. I haven't sent it yet since I am not sure how to submit it. The applicant told me just to email the letter to him/her, but looking at VMCAS' requirements, it looks like the applicant is supposed to submit my contact information to VMCAS and then they email me a log-in and password and I send the letter directly to them.

Is it acceptable for the evaluator to email the letter to the applicant (which of course means the letter isn't confidential and could even be edited without the evaluator's knowledge), or does it HAVE to be submitted directly to VMCAS via the secure log-in and password? Sure sounds like the latter to me.

Thanks and good luck to all of you on finishing your applications!

the applicant has to provide your info on vmcas and vmcas will email you with the info. you submit the letter directly to vmcas.

It is the latter. The applicant needs to put your information in as an evaluator on the VMCAS application. Then VMCAS will send you an e-mail so that you can log in and answer questions about the applicant as well as submit the letter of recommendation. This is for schools in which you have to apply through VMCAS. I am not sure how it works for schools where you do not apply through VMCAS. I am also not sure which schools do not require a VMCAS as far as I know the majority of them do.

60.5 inches here! That half inch is really important. 😉 Can we start a short people club?? haha 🙂

... and now back to your regularly scheduled thread!

Beagleone, that really makes me wonder how she got the other two LORs... very weird.

Oh well!

Oh, and I'm 67" tall... sad, can't join in on complaining. But B is 77" tall, so I FEEL short all the time. 😉

Thanks everyone!

I was kind of wondering about the other two letters too...

What sort of questions do they ask about the applicant?

I'm not done either. I've still got supplemental essays to write, and I've never felt less unique in my life.

Me too. ._. I start writing and then just starting thinking about what everyone else might be saying and try to psych myself out anticipating what everyone else might be thinking is unique. @_@

I'm about to start reading my application over for the millionth (and FINAL) time. Already getting butterflies about hitting that submit button! :scared:

Me too! My VMCAS is all done and I think I have looked at it a million times. All I'm waiting for is my husband to give it a look through and then I hit the submit button! So scary!

"tell me about a time when you..."

who the fudge is "ME"???

I've actually met the "me" that wrote those horrible questions...in my interview last year. :scared:

Done with VMCAS, just waiting on TWO LOR (yes, two!), and trying to hammer out one more Ohio Supplemental question. Word of advice for everyone working on the OSU questions...take them seriously, and be VERY careful what you say in them. They like to use your answers as a basis for a lot of their questions in the interview, so if you say something they don't like (even if it's just a passing comment), they could spend significant time asking you about it.

I love this thread, but it's so bad for me...knowing how many other procrastinators there are out there 😉 Good luck to you all, now let's get our butts in gear!!

be prepared for them to ask you three times if you are SURE you are ready to submit. i almost had a panic attack, thinking this was a sign that i shouldn't be submitting yet lol. after the third pop-up asking if i REALLY wanted to submit, i was about to lose it.

I should definitely join this support group... or perhaps I should stop reading SDN and finish the darn thing!

I am waiting for one letter, need to read over everything again, and need to write a little mini essay for the supplemental.

Oh, and I need to be working on a genetics assignment (self paced was a bad choice for me... notice the procrastinating trend?) plus all the work for my job I need to get done before Monday morning!

Yikes. Maybe it is time for a bubble bath.

I'm just going to second this advice for everyone. One of the first questions in my OSU interview was to elaborate on a situation I had described in one of my supplemental answers.

I just submitted the VMCAS! ahh! Still got some supplementals plus the Tufts application so I am still in this club!

congrats cattycat!!! good luck with the rest of your apps! good luck to everyone else submitting the vmcas this week!!

I do not have visa or mastercard. So when the prompt came up to pay I just about s**t myself when I realized I didn't have a way to pay... mom to the rescue!

Good luck! and "you can do it!" to those still procrastinating....

Oh lord...I'm sitting here trying to finish up my OSU essays, and while I AM taking them very seriously, one of the strongest parts of my personality is my sense of humor, so to try to make my writing unique I usually try to pair deep topics with a sense of levity. I would hate to realize that they're not going to like any of my essays just because they're not all uber serious. When I talked to the Tufts admissions people they constantly told me to add some humor in and be unique. Apparently OSU does things a little differently?

Oh well, it's too late to change things now, I guess. 🙁

Finished my reference just now and submitted it.

dvmdream, thanks for the link, it was very helpful. And twelvetigers, thanks for offering to email me the sample--I got through the reference letter pretty well, but if there had been anything weird I hadn't been sure how to deal with, I'd have taken you up on your offer.

Good luck to all of you! I remember doing my VMCAS application on paper from overseas back in the dark ages and it was very stressful. Best of luck! 🙂

Your welcome! Thanks for the luck. I couldn't imagine having to do all of these applications on paper..I would have definetly lost something or forgotten something.

About to submit VMCAS as soon as I can get on the computer with the printer.
VA-MD: Putting on the finishing touches, will submit tonight.
UC Davis: In an envelope, ready to go tomorrow AM.
CSU: Almost there, just struggling with the uniqueness statement.
Iowa: Sent the sig page and check, still struggling to be a unique snowflake.
Minn: Sent the check and sig page.
Penn: Sent earlier this week.
Illinois: Reread/edit essay, probably send tonight or tomorrow afternoon.
Cornell: Putting off until the rest of this craziness is done!
Michigan: Ha! No supplemental unless you actually have some chance. I like it.
