HMMM.... several Mayo-Scottsdale rejections (including me). Makes me wonder how many they do interview every year.

I got my rejection literally the day after I submitted my application, so either they are not reviewing applications or have a firm (and high) USMLE cut-off score.

According to FREIDA, 45 were interviewed for the 3 positions last year at Mayo-Scottsdale.

I hate when I see that subject "Surgery application" or no subject at all when checking message center in myeras.

here is my list of rejections so far... I know that many more to come (I am FMG)

Providence Hospital and Medical Centers
Marshfield (anyone knows why these guys reject so fast and easily? what are they looking for?)

I need demerol. it hurts.

I am not sure what marshfield is looking for specifically, but I believe they require the ECFMG certificate before applying (but they don't advertise this fact).

Marshfield requires a step 1 and 2 of 220 OR 1 year of clinical experiance in the US for FMG's. This is straight from their website.

Sure, i checked and called the clinic before applying. The requirements are exactly as surg said ... but i tend to believe Kimberli is making the point - bumped on the very first day 🙁

I am not quite sure why I applied to Mayo-Scottsdale; most probably the misleading and overrated prestige factor. My PD told me when he visited as a chief years ago the fellow asked the attending what kind of suture he prefered for closing. They are undoubtedly phenomenal when it comes to patient care, but not so for teaching. Not to brag or boast but I got an interview from there and could not fit it in my schedule and in light of what I mentioned, I turned it down.

Can't be too high of a cut-off score, since my score is less than spectacular.

Got my first rejection today from Wash U.
They must be pretty competitive this year. I am AOA with over 250 on Step I...rejected. 🙁

More "Mayo is only worth its name" fourth-hand info.

The residents at Scottsdale average in the 90% percentile (at least in recent years) on the in-service exams (I have a friend in the program). So, now, may as well talk about how residents at Mayo don't know how to hold a scalpel because they never get a chance 🙄

UIC at Chicago
UIC at Chicago Metropolitan
U Kentucky
Wayne State U
U Nebraska
Maimonides Med Center
Suny Health Center

I could not resist the temptation to call the programs - they have completed their selection ... 🙁

I'm adding U Colorado to the list. 🙁

I wonder if I should be hopeful if I haven't heard from places that others have been rejected from?

Amy, if the long distance calls not a concern, and the frustration is unbearable - call them up - you might find that the odds are not getting better - on the other hand what good does it make to know ahead - " i am not going to hear anything from the # XXX prog" - it is the matter of preferences - i wish to know my chances - it gives me a realistic figure and very, very positive attitude toward the places i am going to be visiting.
Good luck.

I accepted 16 interviews and turned down five, but I can't quit obsessing over my two rejections, Baylor and Greenville. Yep Something is definitely wrong with me.

My first rejection came today....U Penn. It hurts a little.

taz,

I hope you have some interviews. Your rejection list is painfully long. 🙁 (I'm feeling my share of pain, too.)
🙂 😱 😴 :scared:

Ah one more strike for me. Carolinas medical center, said my step 2 score was to late coming in. Oh well I shouldn't complain I applied to 25 and my break down is 19 offers, 2 rejections, and still havent heard from 4. Out of those four there is only one I really really would like to here from.

Geez, that's a really harsh reason to deny someone an interview (unless they would've rejected you anyway and just used that as an excuse)!

Of course, I don't feel bad for you... 😉

Rejected by U. Washington...
🙁

Haha I certainly agree with you what a reason to deny an interview. 🙄 I here that is one of the most competitive community programs around. Anyone else got any crazy responses like that from programs?

If one reads the rejection letters carefully 😉 it becomes obvious the efforts a person spends on crafting the no-thank-you letters. There are shining diamonds in my collection, there are blank unfortunate mishappenings.

Umm, this is my first "official" one, but it still stinks and bums me out.

Me, too. Though, I got the email, and said outloud "I didn't apply to BWH?!". I swore that I didn't, until I checked ERAS....I honestly didn't mean to because 7 year programs were mostly off my list. Now I'd like my $15 back 🙂

Why is that??? It just hurts so much to know that you're not good enough for their tastes. Oh hell oh well! 🙂

Rejected from BU, U Colorado, Dartmouth, UW.

(I didn't care about Dartmouth, though, since their rude rejection email was immediately followed by an interview invite from BWH. 🙂 )

HMMMM... let me check my list.... geesh, can you believe it? I was turned down by UofNM in Amarillo!! I know my app doesn't suck that badly 🙁

Also by Swedish in Washington, Mayo in Scottsdale AZ, Maine Methodist, UV. Haven't heard from a bunch of others yet either. Oh, well. At least I got an interview at my home fac.

Good luck all.
