Hi,

I've seen it implied before that a surgery internship can count towards a year of FP residency. Anybody know for sure?

Thanks for any and all help

You'll get partial credit based on how your old surgery rotations match up to your new program's PGY-1 rotations. Six months' credit is typical. You won't be able to start as a PGY-2, as FM internship includes peds and OB-gyn, among other things, that aren't typically part of a surgical internship. The final decision rests with your PD.

We had a couple of surgical interns/prelims transfer over to FM. All had to restart. Most got 2 months credit only (for Gen Surg). .
