Hey just wondering if any of you have known of anyone that has switched from their specialty to pediatrics during residency?

Yes one of my classmates did a surgical intern year and decided that he really didn't love the OR but did love taking care of critically ill patients. He was planning on going into pediatric surgery and so in the end decided that pediatrics and then pediatric critical care was for him. He did have to repeat his intern year, but I think he will make a fantastic doctor because he does have a little more experience and a slightly different perspective. I'll tell you, his procedural skills are unmatched.

One of my interns started in IM and switched to Peds about halfway through the year. She was about 6 months out of step with the rest of the residents, but apparently much happier.
