Hello, everyone! I have an upcoming interview at IU, and I am an Illinois Resident. My LizzyM score is a 63 and I am URM and have a pretty strong cGPA and sGPA with lots of extracurriculars. I am thinking about switching my residency to Indiana in order to have a better chance of getting accepted to IU as it is my top pick (I went to undergrad in Indiana and have a lot of my extracurriculars in the state). Would it be beneficial to switch my residency before my interview or would that impact me negatively/not help at all? I am trying to get some thoughts on this! Thanks in advance!

Are you eligible to claim residency? I believe you have to live there for 12 months and not be enrolled as a student.

Besides the fact you cant somehow declare a new residency in the middle of an application cycle, any attempt to do may be seen by an adcom as a shameless and somewhat silly act to think they wouldnt see it for what it is. your connection to IU as a student will be sufficient to show your interest and motivation

Awesome, thank you so much for the advice!
