cis 2-butene is more polar than trans 2-butene and therefore has a higher boiling point... trans 2-butene is more "symmetrical" however and this makes it have a higher MELTING point because it can pack together....
I dont understand how trans is more symmetrical than cis... Where is the plane of symmetry. It would look to me that cis is more symmetrical.
