T-minus 1 week....

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have no idea why they can't have match NOW. Part 2 boards retake results are in. What are we waiting for? Everything is computerized.

Do they honestly make us wait till March 20th because MD/DO match is on March 21st? If that's the case we should at least have the balls to have our match on the same exact day.

Yes you do... it builds the anticipation, you need to have sleepless nights. Its tradition!!!!

I agree, there is no need for the delay. The match is computerized and should take moments or minutes to run, not days! I have never understood the delay, and just so it's near MD/DO is stupid because as you say it's not even the same day!

I'd be curious to hear your understanding of how they actually run "the match"...

Umm If you've ever read the documentation it is done by "a computerized match process". Even with the complexity and permutations you can't tell me it takes over a week, if you claim it does you don't understand what a computer is, what year it is, AND your gullible.

See below to read my "understanding of how they actually run the match":

The computer does not take over a week to run the match. It does take days. I also missed the part where you explained how after the computer has run the match, CASPR staff goes through and manually checks for errors. Also takes several days. I must have missed that part in your explanation.

The Match is on March 20th because that's as soon as they can release confirmed/accurate results. The last 2 years, the match has been held ~ 1 week after part 2 results were published. It has been held after the NRMP and this year it's a day earlier. Doesn't have anything to do with NRMP dates. The computer process takes longer than you guys think and like apollofx failed to mention, they go through those results and check for inaccuracies manually.

Dtrack is right about the multi step process involved in manually verifying the match data after all of the computer crunching is finished.

Also, I think the explanation for why the match is on the 20th is pretty simple: it's a date the AACPM feels comfortable they can have 100% accurate match results ready to release. I don't think it's hard to imagine other scenarios where a basically self imposed deadline is required. You know exactly how long it should take and then you build in a certain amount of wiggle room should something unforeseen go wrong.

I'm sure everyone can recall that almost 100 students had to wait an extra 2 weeks to take the January Part 2, if there had been a delay in score release timeframe it could have pushed back the February test date and score release and so on. I'm sure there is a little buffer time built into the match date beyond what is strictly required to complete the task, but it just makes sense to me and I don't see a problem with the AACPM selected date.

I have never read or seen documentation regarding a "manual verification" but I will take your word for it. I will even buy scheduling in a little "wiggle" room. Thankfully the delay for some taking Part II did not delay match.

I have heard they manually check the match results, which I get takes a few days I am sure...but I can't buy into the idea that it takes a computer days to match 600 people, if it did, it would take months to match the 20,000 plus applicants applying to MD/DO residency.

7 business days to run the match and make sure it's accurate doesn't seem outrageous to me.

How do they actually notify you of where you matched? Through the website? Email? Just curious...

You log on to the CASPR website and open the Match tab. It will either tell you where you are going to spend the next three years or it will tell you that you are scrambling.

Silence before the storm...

All my friends in MD school are posting online that they matched "somewhere". Driving me crazy!

Agreed. It's a shame I won't be at Scholl for it (at my final elective). They have an informal ceremony which includes receiving envelopes with a notification stating the program you are matching into. If you are scrambling you get a blank notification...WTF! Total Scholl move. Only the administration would think that's a good idea. Talk about being able to see someone's jaw drop or instantly see someone break down into tears or turn pale instantaneously.

That is terrible.

It is thunderdome. What's even more awesome is that they encourage students to invite their parents.

I am going to email the Scholl admin and not only express my gratitude that this practice exists but offer to personally take and present these match day activities to every other podiatry school.

If I had known all of this I earlier I would have booked tickets to Chicago for it

So wait, is this the first time they find out about match? No one checks the website? Do they do it right when the match results are released? It seems so bizarre to me.

A situation similar to this occurred for the 2012 graduating class allowing the results to be viewed a day early.

In that case, the results were actually not even final at the point they were discovered. Some very unhappy people when the final match was released.

True, I remember quite a few people who were happier with the initial results than with the final results.

They could at least include a lollipop or something with the blank notification. Not cool.

Some info we received today: 554 active positions. 30 approved positions not filling for varied reasons. 558 class of 2014 graduates (who have not necessarily all passed part II, right?). 50 class of 2013 graduates. 26 class of 2012 graduates. 11 from classes before 2012.

So just to clarify, the 554 active positions does not include the 30 to go unfilled correct?? I can't speak to whether the 558 does or does not include those who failed part II, maybe someone else comment.

584 CPME approved positions. 30 approved positions not filling due to funding, clinical content, or program closure issues. 554 active positions. The 30 is a subset of the 584 - not of the 554.

Thank you for the clarification, just wanted to make sure I understood you correctly.

Today was graduation picture day at Barry. Needless to say I had a hard time smiling for my picture. Good luck tomorrow everyone!

Those numbers are pretty favorable for 2014 graduates. The shortage is not as bad as last year. Nonetheless, the position we are in is not okay. I wish everyone luck tomorrow.

That's what I thinking.

Does anyone remember how many positions there were last year for the 2013 match? Off the top of my head I want to say 516 active spots that accepted residents but I'm not 100% sure. If that is the case then adding nearly 40 active spots in the span of one year seems pretty impressive. At the very least, there are approximately enough residencies for graduates of this year, so at least the crisis won't be getting any worse.

Still, best of luck to everyone tomorrow. Here's hoping all that hard work pays off.

Good luck to everyone over the next 24 hours!

There will be fewer 2014 grads in the match than there are active residency positions FWIW

True, making the match also favorable for previous grads as well!

8 from Scholl, but at least 2 are already placed.
