I was wondering if any of you has found owning a tablet PC for med school classes useful? My school recommends getting one but I'm not sure if I want to spend that much money on a computer.

My school requires us to pay for them as part of our tuition and fees. They are alright. I dont think they are worth the extra money, however. I can count the number of times I have actually used the tablet function on it. It comes in handy when there are diagrams you want to quickly jot down during class when you are typing your notes. There isnt a lot of space in class for having paper out and your computer. But I dont think that justifies the cost. They are getting cheaper though.

1. Hey, you know they make PDA's smaller and smaller now, you might want to upgrade.

2. What happened to the dials on your etch-a-scketch?

3. Is that one of those new Reader's Digest large print PDA's?

4. Can you serve cheeze on that?

Let me know if you come up with any others...

Well, Tablet PCs are indeed becoming cheaper. But they will have to really improve the "tablet" functions of it. Personally I'd buy a decent ultra-thin laptop for now...

I like mine. I have used in the lecutes that are based on powerpoint slides. It makes it easier to take basic noted on the slide. I got a convertable so that I am still able to type out notes when I do not want to write or if there are no slides for a lecture. The other thing to remember is that scribe notes are usually available within a few days of the lecture putting note taking in perspective.

I bought the GoBinder program, all you do is print the slides/presentation into the prgram and then you can highlight, draw, and write notes right on the slides, it is also searchable. I have really enjoyed being able to follow and i do not have to draw anythign that is a part of the lecture. Makes everything much more streamlined.
