Hey

This is a really random thread but I just got this catalog in the mail from HP that has tablet PCs in it...the ones that are like laptops but you can write on them with a special pen. They seem really cool and useful where you can write all ur notes on the screen and convert them to type if you want instead of using notebooks...I was thinking maybe that would be useful in optometry school....does anyone you know have them/have them in opt school? Do you like them? Are they useful/worth it for that purpose of replacing notebooks? Thanks for ur input! 🙂

I was wondering the same thing.

Tablet PCs are cool, but personally, I don't think they're worth the $$$. If you scribble something down and you *really* want an electronic copy of it (to put in a transcript or whatever), your school will probably have a scanner you can use.

That would be pretty time consuming.

Hello:

I actually have a Visor that I tried to use to take down notes in class. I even had one of those foldaway keyboards which make a lot of sound when you type on them. =)

It doesn't replace notebooks. I find that scribbling down notes or drawing pictures is best done on paper with different pen colors. The PDAs may be useful to download programs such as drug information, but it hasn't helped me much in studying for a class.

If I were starting over again I think I would get a tablet. But I would make sure it has the largest screen available. Those 10.4 inch screens are just to small to work on. The program you should get is at www.gobinder.com. Go binder is designed for students to organize notes. It looks really cool.

Hey thanks for all the input. The Tablet PC looked really neat..that's why I put up the post..I was just wondering if it's worthwhile..I would think it's weird not writing on paper but on a screen instead but I guess that's where the world is going.. We'll see if I splurge for one for next year when I'm at PCO! 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

This is pretty obvious, but I thought I would just say it anyway. I you would suggest going to a computer store that sells tablets and try writing quickly on them. If it doesn't seem like something you can get use to, don't get it.

I have been looking into them quite a bit b/c my father's practice is moving toward going paperless. If anyone gets one, let me know how it works out.
