I'm going in into radiology, and am thus applying for transitional years and prelim internal years. Would it be considered taboo if I applied to both transitional and internal at the same university? Would there be the same people on the interview committee?

It's fine. The issue is not applying to two types of one-year programs but rather two different types of terminal training in different specialties.

Applying to multiple prelims at the same hospital isn't an issue. It seems common among applicants that have a strong geographical preference.

One of my best friends from med school applied to, interviewed, and ranked 3 programs (transitional year, prelim medicine, and prelim surgery) at a hospital in a city where he had a strong desire to match. He ended up ranking one of those #1 and matched that program.

let's say i want to stay in a city, and a hospital has both a child neuro program (with two prelim peds spots set aside) and a general peds program. is it taboo for me to apply to both the child neuro program and the general peds program? (even if the general peds program would mean no child neuro)

i understand that program directors might consider it as if you don't really care either way, so you're applying to both... but if it means that my family all stay in a city, id be willing to do it.

just curious what all of your thoughts are on this. thanks!
