To all,

i'm beginning to prepare for the national dental boards part I. In the quest, I have sorted out study books and materials, but now need a study strategy. I find that the information that i read 'slips my mind'. this i find discouraging since the volume of info is too much for my little brain.... 🙁

Is there a way to dissect the exam. I mean, certain topics show up more than others or that 'guarantee to expect questions' in this topic. What about depth vs. range/scope? I say this because study books have done this for SATs in high school, but for the NBDE I have not been able to come across a good study strategy or a source that I has studied the question types.

If you have the skill of 'studying the exam questions' then please feel free to share that. this could be very useful to me for my exam, and course exams.

well there are 400 q we can not narrow the subjects down, but I guss if we can study kaplan(for ftd who where away from basics) and the decks, its enough. I do the kaplan first then decks and I do as many test I can.

Hi i'm need to take it again, a friend of mine(who got very good scores) told me to use my decks as follows:
1-first you have to organize it by systems for example
all the decks from heart (bioche, anatomy, micro) and those that stand alone leave them like that.
2 start the easiest part. the one you prefer, that way you'll be encourage to study.
3 take notes and you could go for further inf. to first aid usmle step 1 ,kaplan wekipedia.
4- do all releases.
I hope this could help you. Good luck.

Would you please tell me where can I find this Kaplan book? at what site?
...I tried at amazon.com and I found Kapln review book 2004 (currently unavailable) and I also found dentEssentials: High-yield NBDE part 1 Review (Kaplan Dentessentials) 2007 which is available? are they the same? which one do you study from? please reply. thanx

(it is kaplan lecture notes and about 828 pages)I guss they are diffrent the book is white with a blue molar tooth on it. I got mine on Ebay I don't know about the other materials but if you have them start studying and USMLE first aid is good too. there is a cd I bought on line it had lots of good stuf in it surch on google it was just 36$ but lots of useful information.

Thank you so much.
This CD include part 1 only or part 1 and 2?
I am thinking of studying from first aid only not kaplan cause i heard that kaplan has too much details while first aid is to the point? what do u think?
i need your advice.
thankx again

Anybody doing Microbiology/Pathology these days...Can u please share your strategy on that one.

Hi there, sorry i did not answer earlier i wasn't checking this site.
My friend did a 12 week plan for the decks as follows:
1- she organized the decks in 5 groups by system( in the new exam everything is scrambled so study like that too.) for ex: everything about bones together, everything about liver, etc.
2 weeks for each group

2-2 weeks for releases.
the releases should be done by subject too:
for example you have to complete all bone related questions, liver related q, etc without looking the answers and try to give a an explanation( you can use your decks) and memorize .
3 go to usmle for reference and for further inf wikipedia, so basically, you do decks once
in depth!!
