Tad bit confused about compensated CHF vs decompensated CHF

I know you can use B-blockers in compensated and that theyre contraindicated in decompensated, but my understanding gets a little blurry after that.. can anyone fill in the gap for me? thanks

DIT dude said that since your contractility is already compromised, you wouldn't want B-blockers to compromise it even more. Mainly you want to avoid pulmonary edema, since there are already likely issues with dyspnea, and what not.
