Hi all,
First time posting on this thread. I'm a med student at a top 10 medical school who has recently become interested in plastics. I haven't hit clinics yet (finished 2nd year), but I'm taking a year off to do an HHMI in a field completely unrelated to plastics. I spoke with a plastics attending today and he told me that the HHMI & any research unrelated to plastics won't matter at all, and he told me a student in a similar position as me in the past ended up taking another year off to do plastics-specific research. I understand plastics is a very competitive field, but is another year of research specific to plastics necessary? My step 1 score is not amazing, but decent (245). Any advice about how to proceed at this point would be helpful.
