Hi all. Just wondering if this was plausible. Accepted to my top choice DO and will most likely be attending unless my MD school pulls through (3rd time applicant). I know anatomy is brutal and I want to prepare for it, if possible. Will taking an anatomy summer course at a local cc help? I have no background in anatomy (beside physio) and its been almost 3 years since undergrad. Want to slowly put myself back into the academic mode. Assuming I do participate in such class, am I obligated to report this cc course to the med school I will be attending? The only problem is med school begins around 1.5 weeks before the anatomy course finishes. So i will be leaving the cc course early. or should I talk to my undergrad and see if they will let audit a class? or just pursue an online course?

or screw it and just work/party/relax before I drink from the fire hydrant in med school.

Thoughts? Thanks for your input!

I would relax. I took anatomy and loved it, but the timing just doesn't seem good for you. There will be many others in the same boat. You will have a little bit of an additional learning curve in the beginning, but you should be fine. I am not a medical student yet, but I have met many who have gone in with no anatomy experience and done just fine.

It’s super not worth it. I had a pretty good anatomy background coming in and it only saved me a few hours over the course of a year. If you feel like you must do something, then buy boards and beyond a month or so prior to start and watch the pertinent anatomy videos for your first block(s) (mine was msk).

I've been taking anatomy I and II at my local CC for a grade in summer and fall semesters, and I actually really like it. It has been super helpful getting back into the learning/grading mindset and knowing basic structures/ terms. But I'm stopping classes spring semester to relax and get mentally ready for med school. It's super stressful and difficult to juggle interviews, jobs, and coursework, and it is not something I want to sustain while I'm trying to wrap up work projects.

So ultimately, I wouldn't recommend taking classes/studying too close to med school starting; but if you had time and there was a condensed class that ended before March, I'd say go for it.

*edit redudancy.

Ew, absolutely not. Enjoy the last free time you're going to have until you retire.

Thanks everyone. Beside learning how to cook, manage time, and anti, I’ll be partying before classes.

I took anatomy and physiology at a local CC myself. I actually audited it so that I did not get a grade (and even used that as part of my story about self-motivated learning). It was neat to learn just to learn, and while the anatomy itself is not super applicable the physiology is very helpful to be warm when going into the first year.

I personally recommend it, as I had a good experience, but I am just one person.

Hope this helps,
