Hi everybody,

I'm just wondering if there's any of you took the DAT three times and got into dental school(s). I took my DAT twice. First time, I got 19 AA and 17 PAT so I wanted to retake it to get a better chance. Unfortunately, my scores went down the second time (17 AA and 18 PAT 🙁) so I'm now considering retaking it in September. Is it too late to apply? My GPA is around 3.3 and science GPA is around 3.1. I will try to prepare my application as complete as possible so I can submit it as soon as I get my DAT scores. Is there any of you out there have the same situation? I'm so confused right now. A lot of people told me not to retake the third time because who knows if i can raise my score to 20. Please tell me what I can do. Any advices/ suggestions are truly appreciated!

I know there are people on here who have said they took it 3 times and got in. If you got a 17 AA, I would re-take no matter what. Your gpa is below average and now your DAT is below average. Not saying it cant happen but your chances are slim. I would re-take and study your butt off this time and raise that score! Good Luck!

it doesnt matter that much if its ur third time or whatever!, you just have to ace it this time. i donno how u scored lower the 2nd time? but its all good, u should have to come up with a different strategy to study, cause if u study pretty well, u can ace the test the 1st/2nd or the 3rd time. u just not ready to take test, unless uve score atleast 21s on all ur practice tests

Taking the DAT for the 3rd time isn't that big of a problem. However, you MUST get higher scores this time in order to compensate for your previous scores.
Taking the DAT in September is somewhat late (specially when you consider the fact that its takes about a month for them to process your scores and send them to schools), and this will most likely impact your application one way or another. But, what else could you do? Your chances of getting admission with your previous scores are very slim. So, you need to improve your DAT scores. Worst case scenario, you won't get in this year, but if you ACE the exam this time, your scores will carry over to the next cycle. So, your best bet is to retake the exam.

ditto, i'll add that your PAT is what they look for a lot of times in case of an improvement and which ever section you didn't do well on obviously.

good luck,

(ps: I took it twice 😀)
