Hey guys, I'm a biology major with a bit of a situation.

In second year, I have the option of taking orgo 1, but my workload is crammed with 5 bio courses (half credits) and I don't want to take it till third year - where I will have more leniency and free time.

The situation, however, is that I want to do my MCAT in third year and apply to Canadian med schools by the end of my third year. Therefore, I'm not sure what to do, any advice?

(P.S, will take orgo 1 & 2 in third year or orgo 1 in second, then orgo 2 in third).

I would recommend not having a lot of time inbetween taking 1 and 2, as that will make 2 quite difficult. Like many other full-year classes (calc, gen chem), orgo 2 is a continuation/expansion of orgo 1 with a ton of carryover and conceptual ideas that you must retain to truly do well. Having a year or so off inbetween certainly makes this more difficult. (I made this mistake and it made for a lot of un-needed refresher time at the beginning of the semester, and an 11/25 on my first quiz 👎 )

That's what I was thinking too, however, when it comes to my MCAT and application for third year, do you think taking during third year should be okay?

I am unsure about that one as I have yet to take the MCAT. I was lucky enough to complete orgo 1 and 2 with two years left to go in undergrad.

A lot of people look down upon taking 5 years of undergrad, but it has worked out beautifully for me. You can honestly always have that as an option too.

5 years is too much. I really want to be in med by third year. When do we take MCATs by the latest during a year? And when do applications go out with our transcripts?

Def consider this OP if scheduling is becoming a problem. You may spend another year, but if it helps you do well in school, it may be worth it.

Can you postpone biology then?

Take Orgo I the semester after gen chem II. I would not take a semester or year in between.

I disagree. Do what you need to do to do well in class. And the amount of knowledge from gen chem required to do well in ochem is extremely minimal (and that's being generous).
