I've been around SDN for awhile, so I know how annoying this can get to be, but...

Today I got my Step 1 score back - 232. I've gotten pretty good grades (~15 hours of Honors in the past 2 years), some decent ECs, though nothing in the area of research (I hate it). I've just started my third year, and I've been leaning towards Radiology for residency, and just want to know what kind of fight I'm in for.

Any input would be much appreciated. 🙂

Solid step 1...could be better to make you more relaxed...but there will be a lot of applicants with lower scores wishing they were in your shoes....so relax.

Do well on all your rotations....rotate at a radiology program you are interested in..or two programs....get strong letters of rec and you should not have a problem.

Apply to a broad range of programs....not just top tier, but some lower tier academic programs and some community programs so you don't get left out in the cold come match day.

This is a dumb question, but when you say to rotate at two programs that you might be interested in... does that mean you take "Diagnostic Radiology" at both? I am looking at a couple of programs for externships, and it seems like quite a few don't have other Radiology electives available to outside students. I didn't think I could take DR at two different places because it would be the same material. Can you help me understand this?

It depends on your school....Some med schools are lenient and you can take as many electives as you want 4th year....I did a special elective at one program where you spend two weeks in one discipline and two weeks in another, then another elective I did just a general radiology rotation. I did a third elective in mainly Neuroradiology. Either way as long as you get to know the program and its people then you have accomplished your goal.
