I'm gonna be a sophomore in community college. I have one year left there.

well I took 5 classes for the summer I... and I am going to get a C in my criminal justice class, (other classes are As and Bs). should I take the C or withdrawal...

all classes i took are As and Bs. I took criminal justice class once , i got D on it so i had to retake it.. (i hate this class so much that i couldn't get over it ...)

I have 2 withdrawal already. on my transcript. over all i have pretty high GPA.

My friends told me community college grades doesn't matter because when i transfer to university , everything starts from 0. but im afraid that the dental school gonna look at my community college's transcript, 1 D, 2 W looks so bad.

My math classes and science clases mostly As , and i have about 300 volunteer hours so far.

Do i still have the shots for the dental school?

I come from China 4 years ago , they say i learn english really really fast , but i do have an accent, what the dental school think about that?

so stressed everyday , 19years old have wrinkles already 🙁

should i take the c or the W?

what do you guys think

I don't know much about transferring, but in order to transfer to a four year university, you will most likely need a high CC GPA, so I would take the withdrawal instead of the C since you already have a D. When you apply to dental school, they will look at your transcript from the CC and the university. If you take the C, it will take down your GPA, maybe even a good amount if you've only had one year of classes so far. Is this a necessary class for you? If not, I wouldn't sign up for it again since you seem to have trouble with it. Also, you have to take into account that there are dental schools that don't take community college credit, and they prefer you to take the prerequisite science courses at a university. They understand that courses at the university level are more difficult and they want to see that you can handle the courseload of dental school.

so u think do i still got the chance to be competitive

I would take the C. Too many withdrawals from any school, but especially a community college doesn't look great and since you took the class before also. Since the class wasn't one of your pre-reqs, it's not as bad. Also, if you took some of your pre-reqs (bio, genchem, physics, etc.) in community college, make sure the schools you are interested in will accept them. If you are waiting to take them at a university, make sure you do well in them because your university GPA is what truly matters. It's still early, so you can be doing a lot to make sure you have a chance to get into dental school. Competitive GPA + competitive DAT score will greatly help. Your volunteer hours are great 🙂 Just make sure to do shadowing (if that's not included in your volunteer hours). Good luck!

It's too early to say now b/c you still have another potential 3 years of classes to go. The good thing is that you are seeking advice now and have some sort of idea of what to do in the future to make sure you're competitive by the time you apply. Dental school is becoming really competitive now, and you have to make sure you get as many A's as possible. If you do really well at your future university, they may overlook the fact that you made a D and had a W b/c they'll know you have the potential to do well. You also need to make sure you do really well on your DAT, and taking gen chem, orgo, bio, etc. at a university will probably better prepare you for those subjects than at a CC.

I think especially because you got the D, you should take the W and retake for an A. If you get anything below an A, it will further reduce your GPA because all of the grades are counted. It would be as though you were getting a C in a completely unrelated class as far as your GPA is concerned. Also, you don't want to make it look like you did barely better, you want to show them that you learned from your mistakes in getting the D and mastering the material.

I had at least 6-7 W's on my transcripts (all from CC), and it never came up once at any of my interviews. A W is ALWAYS better than a D, and almost always better than a C, as long as you don't have too many (less than 8 I'd say).

It is a very good sign that you're getting A's and B's in your other classes...though maybe 5 classes was a bit much to take during the summer.

And the CC debate goes on and on, and no one ever really listens to my points, but I'll say them again, the stigma that a class at a big 4 year university will always prepare you better than a class at a community college is patently false. It depends on the situation, and often you can get a better education at the CC, I know I did, and others have told me the same thing. Other than the symbolic slap on the wrist that schools say about "we'd prefer you to take science classes at the university level," doesn't really effect your chances at most schools as long as you can prove that you can play ball in the big leagues by doing well in upper division sciences. Now there are a few schools that say they won't take community college classes as pre-reqs, and a few do hold this as a strict rule (temple comes to mind), but other schools are willing to bend their rules. I was accepted at a school that claimed to not take any CC credit, after having taken all of my pre-reqs at my CC. I was also accepted to an Ivy league dental school, so it's not like taking CC science classes is going to scar your record. *sigh* sorry about getting a bit off topic like that, it just really irritates me. *rant mode off*

4th had a very good point in saying that you've got plenty of time left to prove yourself, but on the same page, you've still got plenty of time left to ruin yourself, so just be sure to do your best, and I think everything will likely turn out find for you. Good luck!

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you would always get a better education at a university rather than a CC. As Vicviper pointed out, he felt some of his CC classes were better taught than at a university. I just wanted to point the fact out about CC courses b/c a few years ago I wanted to take some prereqs at a local CC during one summer, and when I called dental schools about it, they advised me to take it at my university instead. I didn't want you to apply in a couple of years and find this out then. And yeah, certain schools will be more lenient than others, but it would be best to do your research on schools now and see what's best for you.

Very true, good points. Hehe, sorry, didn't mean to get upset before.

u just emailed my teacher, i took the W . and about university , i probly gonna stay till get done my 300 blow classes , cuz the money issue.

Withdraw. Your GPA stays the same. Get a C and your GPA gets smoked. You can always explain why you withdrew... But a C is a C, and your GPA will get a major hit.

Withdraw. 3 W's throughout your college career won't do much harm!

B.S.
When you apply to dental school, you submit all your grades (including your CC grades) to AADSAS, and they will assign you a brand new GPA. So, your CC grades do in fact have an effect on the GPA dental schools will look at before giving you admission.

My math classes and science clases mostly As , and i have about 300 volunteer hours so far.

Aren't you still in CC?
This is way too early for you to worry about dental schools. Try to transfer to good university. That should be your primary concern right now. This is a gradual process, you can't think about the finish line, while you've barely started the process.

I come from China 4 years ago , they say i learn english really really fast , but i do have an accent, what the dental school think about that?
Your accent has nothing to do with your dental school admission process. You need to be well-spoken, however, and you need to be able to present yourself decently during interviews. Most importantly, you need to become an efficient reader (if you aren't already), because that has proven to be extremely important for your DAT exam. Writing is also important, so I encourage you to address any problems you may have in this field, as you'll be writing lots and lots of essays during your application process.

so stressed everyday , 19years old have wrinkles already 🙁
God Bless the BOTOX!

Stop worrying so much, and try to enjoy life while you can. Dental School will come at you fast, and when you're in you can devote 4 years to stressing out about surviving in dental school.

Good Luck👍
