Is it possible to take a year off (doing nothing meaningful..) during residency or right after graduation from med school without any problems?

If I get match to a program, would it possible to take 1 year off before I start working there?

If I take a year off (due to some abnormal situation) during my residency, will I have to repeat the previous years or will I be fired?

If you match, that's a contract. You can't decide that you are going to take a year off. If something came up during residency, your status would depend on your performance up to the point that "something" and how much credit you would get for that year. Your status would be determined by your program director and evaluations.

Taking time off from medicine is a bad idea unless you are getting a degree (Ph.D, MPH etc). Even in those cases, most people take every opportunity to keep up with their clinical knowledge. They don't just take an extended vacation and "hang out".

If you can't commit to medicine and training, then take your year off before you start.
