I placed out of Calculus I coming into college and just took Calc II. Would it look funny if I took Calc I over the summer at a junior college and got an A to boost my overall and science GPA?

Unless you need to take it for a pre-req, this looks VERY sketchy, and may reflect badly on your application - I'd say don't do it.

Here's the thing... say you're at an interview and you get this question:

"Hmm.. I see you took a Calc 1 class the summer before you graduated... but you had already taken Calc 2, why was this?"

At that point, just about any answer you give wouldn't be good enough, and it'd be a safe bet that you just ruined your chances for admissions to that school.

Just to raise your GPA a tiny bit, this is a HUGE risk that isn't worth it. If you want to take a class to raise your GPA, take something else. I took "Global Change Biology" which was a total cakewalk class during my senior year because I needed more units - if you want to look less shady, and be able to give even a semi-legit answer at an interview about it, you should take something that could possibly interest you, or just some other random science.

I agree with Vicviper.

Here's also another way to think of it--"If" your gpa is low and needs some boosting then adcom will most likely already question your academic abilities. How can you demonstrate your abilities to handle the rigors of a dental curriculum when you're going from University to CC especially to take a class that you were able to test out of?

In short, don't try to take the easy way out. I'm sure adcoms aren't stupid and notice this sort of stuff, especially if your GPA is low. If your GPA is low, raising it a slight bit by an A in a class you have essentially already done, isn't really going to make you look good on your transcript. Instead trust in your abilities and take an actual new course and study hard for it and get an A.

Don't be so sure it will be easier there. I did that for O-Chem and ended up with a C. So did a few other students in my class. It all depends on the professors toughness.

I would not do it! Its a big red flag to adcoms. Try and take a biology class of some sort. I took nursing A&P at a CC, it was somewhat difficult but doable. Try and take something useful!
