Ok, I came to college with a lot of AP credit from high school but now I'm starting to get worried about my in-residence science GPA. I had 81 hours of credit including Chem AP, English I&II, Bio AP, Calculus BC, and Physics B&C.

I'm not a science major so I've only taken what's required for medical school and then a little extra (ie genetics, physiology, biochemistry). I went pre-med my junior year and was able to complete everything because of my credits but, having been removed from science for a while, I didn't do that well in the upper division science classes.

My question is: should I start retaking the AP credits for the sake of boosting the science GPA? I was told that some medical schools calculate GPA with and without your AP credits. If it's the latter, then I'm going to be in a bad place. Thanks in advance for any comments.

jesus..
all i can say is..
damn..
there are some medical schools that do accept ap credit..
and others that dont..
run a a search..
and apply to those that accept..

they cant ever calculate GPA w/ Ap credits since they dont have a grade..

i'm currently taking my physics again, but i kept my 23 other credits

YES.... regardless of having AP credit, I strongly recommend you take one year of general bio, chem, orgo, physics, math, and english at the college level.. The other AP courses for other subjects you can keep.

I really believe med schools like to see grades for these courses, because they are REQUIRED for admission. Upper level science courses are not required and thus as an applicant, you are not held accountable if you have not taken them.

But Required courses are required courses, and it would be nice if they could see a letter grade for them.

I would retake your science courses and calculus if you had AP credit for that. I also brought in a lot of AP credits but ended up having to retake all of my classes for college credit since Duke does not accept ANY AP credit (that is my dream school). I would say it is better to be safe than sorry!

I wish I hadn't used my AP credits for my science classes....extra grades in my science gpa would've been nice.

I feel the need to throw out the fact that it is going to look pretty funny to see someone take intro classes AFTER upper levels. Schools will know that you're only taking them to up your GPA. However, it should also be noted that if your science GPA is really low, it might be worth it, even if it looks a bit strange.
