LOONG story short, my major requirement has changed and it turns out I don't need Calculus I to finish my major. I'm taking Calc I at a CC to save money and it is still a very very time consuming course to study for regardless of it being at a CC (and math is not my forte). Therefore, since it is not required and the fact that it is time consuming, it is making me think to just drop it and focus on studying for my MCAT & other courses. I will have to take the W unfortunately. What do you guys think, stick it out and pull the A or just take the W and focus on my MCAT? This will be my only W if I end up dropping it.

Can you actually get an A in the course? How much would your other courses suffer? When are you taking the MCAT?

If you can get an A in the course and still perform well in your other courses, you should stick to it. Sure it might suck doing extra work each week but that's life as a student. But, if you do decide to W the course, it's not the end of the world. 1 W won't be a huge deal

Yeah, I can (if not, at least an A-) as the requirements for the course are easier compared to a university course but I have been behind on my MCAT schedule mostly due to my calculus homework requirements and examinations. I just feel like this class is purely dead-weight loss and is not contributing to anything but a simple grade. My question is, since this is the only class I have and ever will take at a community college will I be required to submit my transcript from this community college when I apply to medical schools next year? Secondly, since this is a non-science course, getting a W on it (with a proper explanation) won't hurt my chances right?

You do have to report it because any school that you take courses at you have to report. Pretty sure there is some like national database that either the schools or AMCAS/AACOMAS can search to see where you have taken courses to double check. I don't think it will be a huge deal if you W unless you have a questionable academic background (a lot of poor grades)

A single W isn't going to hurt, contrary to SDN hype

If you have the time necessary to snag a decent grade with all your other responsibilities, then commit the time and buckle down. However, if you feel it is slipping away from you in the end then take the W if it would be a worse out come.

Actually, according to GPA calculations for your science GPA for AMCAS - this will be a BCMP (Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics) course and thus WILL count towards your science GPA and your overall cumulative GPA. Be very vigilant.
