Hi All,

I went through the forum and couldn't find the particular question that addressed the potential financial situation if one decides to take a year off and work before actually applying to med school.

More and more, I'm leaning towards taking a year off before applying to med school (right now I'm a jr. in undergrad). Ideally, I'm looking to work and continue to do research for the professor I work for as well as get some experience in the medical field environment. However, my main question is, how will this affect my financial aid when I actually do apply to medical school?

AKA: If I work for a year and make a certain amount of money, will it be worth it if it essentially hurts my financial aid offered to me? How will it actually affect my financial status both in reference to aid and to financial survival, I guess, when I actually do apply for medical school?

Thanks!!

it will not hurt your financial aid....

I personally plan to have approx. 8 months to save up $30,000 so I can buy a cheap condo. Rather than using financial aid to pay rent...I might as well pay a mortgage and receive equity for 4-7 years. Also the government is offering great incentives to first time buyers.
