Hey guys,

I am currently taking biochem for the first time and I'll be honest, I'm worried about the class based on what everyone says about it. What tips do you guys have for the class?

Pay attention in class and review class handouts... this works for biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, etc.

Read the chapter ahead of lecture. Come in with questions for after class.

Know your basics. Having a good foundation in chemistry and biology and some physical chem will go miles for you. A large part of what I see the people around me struggle with is the inability to put all the small pieces of what they learn in biochem together, and a lot of it can be due to missing some basic knowledge.

Make flash cards for the 20 aminio acids and learn them now.

Don't give up! This class can be very trying and it is a lot of information and (for me) quite a bit of math which I didn't anticipate. Don't be afraid to reach out to your professor for help. You got this. 🙂 best of luck.

Spell (draw) out your name or other peoples names with the 20 Amino acids, kind of a fun way to memorize them T.T

draw out diagrams for different processes and cycles, and review them keeping the "big picture" in mind.
